  1. Shannon multigraph

In the mathematical discipline of graph theory , Shannon multigraphs , named after Claude Shannon , are a special type of triangle Graph mathematics graphs , which are used in the field of edge coloring in particular. A Shannon multigraph is multigraph with 3 vertices for which either of the following conditions holds a all 3 vertices are connected by the same number of edges. b as in a and one additional edge is added. More precisely one speaks of Shannon multigraph Sh n , if the three vertices are connected by math left lfloor frac n 2 right rfloor math , math left lfloor frac n 2 right rfloor math and math left lfloor frac n 1 2 right rfloor math edges respectively. For even n the Shannon multigraph assumes the upper bound of Vizing s theorem and hence proving its optimality in a certain sense. gallery widths 100 heights 100 perrow 6 caption Shannon multigraphs File Shannon multigraph 2.svg Sh 2 File Shannon multigraph 3.svg Sh 3 File Shannon multigraph 4.svg Sh 4 File Shannon multigraph 5.svg Sh 5 File Shannon multigraph 6.svg Sh 6 File Shannon multigraph 7.svg Sh 7 gallery References Lutz Volkmann Fundamente der Graphentheorie , Springer Wien 1996, ISBN 3 211 82774 9, p.  289 German External links Lutz Volkmann http www.math2.rwth aachen.de files gt buch graphen an allen ecken und kanten.pdf Graphen an allen Ecken und Kanten . 1. Shannon's expansion

In mathematics, Shannon s expansion or the Shannon decomposition is a method by which a Boolean function can be represented by the sum of two sub functions of the original. Although it is often credited to Claude Shannon , Boole proved this much earlier. Shannon is credited with many other important aspects of Boolean algebra logic Boolean algebra . Expansion The Shannon expansion develops the idea that Boolean function s can be reduced by means of the Identity mathematics identity math F x cdot F x x cdot F x math where math F math is any function and math F x math and math F x math are positive and negative Shannon cofactors of math F math , respectively. A positive Shannon cofactor of function math F math with respect to variable math x math is defined as that function with all math x math s set to math 1 math . A negative Shannon cofactor is the same, but sets all math x math s to math 0 math . The Shannon expansion theorem is an important idea in Boolean algebra logic Boolean algebra . It paved the way for Binary decision diagram s, Boolean satisfiability problem Satisfiability solvers , and many other techniques relevant for computer engineering and formal verification of digital circuits. As presented in Jan.1948 paper, The Synthesis of Two Terminal Switching Circuits ref Bell System Technical Journal, vol.28, pp.59 98, original text. ref . Simply stated as the expansion of a function as math f X 1, X 2, dots , X n X 1 cdot f 1, X 2, dots , X n X 1 cdot f 0, X 2, dots , X ... x . x Variables In Shannon s expansion the term x is very significant but problems can arise ... , math The expansion is complete. Mergefrom Entropy ecology date March 2008 The Shannon index , sometimes referred to as the Shannon Wiener Index or the Shannon Weaver Index, ref Krebs, Charles 1989 Ecological Methodology. HarperCollins, New York. ref is one of several diversity index diversity indices used to measure diversity in categorical data . It is simply the Information entropy of the distribution, treating species as symbols and their relative population sizes as the probability. This article treats its use in the measurement of biodiversity . The advantage of this index is that it takes into account the number of species and the evenness of the species. The index is increased either by having additional unique species, or by having a greater species evenness .
