  1. Form (religion)

Orphan date February 2009 In academic discussions of Religion organized religion , the term form is sometimes used to describe prescriptions or Norm sociology norms on religious practice. Christian forms Forms in Christianity are mostly familiarly dictates of church authority or tradition e.g. church government , liturgy , doctrine . However, the term is used by some authors to refer to a broader category that includes other patterns of religious practice. Most notably, Christian scholar D. G. Hart uses this term to compare and contrast the practices of Evangelicalism evangelical Protestant s and what he calls confessional Protestants for example Anglicanism Anglicans and most Lutheran s . He argues that the confessionals follow forms that are dictated by church authority or tradition, and calls these forms churchly forms . On the other hand, noting the resistance to such central authority and tradition among evangelicals, he labels the forms of these denominations parachurchly forms , as they are often dictated by parachurch organization s and other influences beyond the direct control of any particular church. There is little debate over whether confessional Protestants use forms. However, whether similar devices are used by evangelicals is hotly contested. Much of the opposition comes from within evangelicalism itself, due to the Antiritualism antiritualistic tendencies of many denominations. Other scholars of religion have however noted the tendency toward certain accepted patterns in religious practice. Robert Oden notes that this is true of nearly all religions, not just Christianity, and that it is true even of those movements that claim to be antiritualistic. If then we accept the broader usage of the word form , there are a number of other forms besides the ones noted above. These include the products of what has, perhaps cynically, been called Christian entrepreneur ship , such as contemporary Christian music and non denominational praise song s , Christian ...   more details

  1. Faroese religion

unreferenced date January 2009 Missing image removed Image Curch of vidareidi, faroe islands .jpg thumb Church of Vi arei i from 1892 Faroese religion is part of the Lutheran evangelical movement. The second largest Protestant movement is the Open Brethren community. The Faroe Islands , located between Scotland and Iceland, are partly ruled by Denmark and as such the people have long practiced the same religion as the Danes. The Faroe Islands became a Catholic country in about 1000. Originally belonging to Norway , Faroe fell under the jurisdiction of Denmark in 1523. The last Catholic Bishop of the Faroe Islands was Amundur Olavson he was replaced by the first Lutheran bishop, Jens Gregers n Riber, in 1540 . There exists ancient evidence about when this country became Christian in the F reyinga saga . The saga states that the king of Norway told Sigmund to go by ship to the Faroe Islands with orders from the King. Sigmund s orders were clear he was supposed to make the 18 small islands Christian, which is what he did, according to the saga. This event is believed to have taken place around 1000 and the Faroese did not establish an organised Catholic Church before around 1100, so there do appear to be some inconsistencies in the saga. The third largest religious group are charismatic movement . Today the Catholic Church is an extremely small minority. There are also small groups of Seventh day Adventists , Jehovah s Witnesses and Bah Faith Bah s in the country.
