Flare is a Canadian fashion magazine . It is owned by Rogers Communications . Flare magazine came into existence in 1979, as a reinvention of the Canadian publication Miss Chatelaine magazine. It is known as Canada s Fashion magazine , and while cover stories often feature American or International stars, Flare focuses largely on Canadian content and its role in internation art, fashion, and media. In addition to runway and street fashion from Canada and abroad, the magazine covers music and entertainment, health and beauty, and feature stories relevant to young Canadian women. Flare celebrated its 30th anniversary on November 5, 2009, with a star studded reception and party at the Royal Ontario Museum . Flare Magazine was the brainchild of Donna Scott who was given two magazines, Teen Generation and Miss Chatelaine by Maclean Hunter Management to improve or redirect. Flare became Canada s first successful fashion magazine, under the direction of its first editor, Keitha Maclean . Subsequent editors included, Shelley Black and Bonnie Fuller. Donna Scott retired from Flare and went on to be the Chair of Canada Council for the Arts and was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1994 . Flare magazine often uses Canadian models such as Lisa Cant and Heather Marks for their photo shoots along with many other up and comers. Past editors in chief have included Bonnie Fuller and Suzanne Boyd . The position is currently held by Lisa Tant . The magazine has featured Wayne Gretzky s future wife Janet Jones on the cover and in the magazine in the 1980s. Jungfrun i tornet The Maiden in the Tower JS 101, is the only completed opera by the Finland Finnish composer Jean Sibelius . Its Swedish language Swedish libretto is by Rafael Hertzberg. It was first performed in a concert version during a fund raising evening for the Helsinki Philharmonic Society on 7 November 1896. It received three further performances before Sibelius withdrew it, claiming he wanted to revise the score. He never did and the opera remained unheard until it was broadcast on Finnish radio in 1981. The work s lack of success has been blamed on the weakness of the libretto, described by Robert Layton as a lifeless concoction Viking p.983 . Some of the music shows the influence of Richard Wagner . The opera is in a single act, divided into eight scenes, and lasts about 35 40 minutes. Roles class wikitable Cast Voice type Premiere cast Maiden soprano Bailiff barytone Lover tenor Chatelaine mezzo soprano Emmy Acht Synopsis The story is set in the Middle Ages . After the Maiden rejects the advances of the Bailiff, he kidnaps her and imprisons her in his castle. PFLAG Canada is a national non profit organization which brings together family and friends of LGBT people in Canada. It was begun separately and without knowledge of the American Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays PFLAG which performs the same functions in the United States. History In the 1970s in Toronto, meetings of non LGBT but welcoming family members were held under the banner of Parents Of Gays POG . Changes were accelerated by Rev. Brent Hawkes of the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, who brought Betty Fairchild , co author of Now That You Know , to POG meetings. After POG was advertised in Chatelaine magazine Chatelaine , Anne Rutledge of Mississauga contacted June Tattle a friend of Fairchild and parent of a gay child , after which, in October 1981, POG was amalgamated with Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays FFLAG , started by Pauline Martin and her son Russell. The new organization was re styled as Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays , or Parents FLAG . After a number of media appearances by Rutledge and other members of Parents FLAG, other chapters were established throughout Canada in the 1980s and 1990s. Finally, in 2003, the movement was nationally consolidated as PFLAG Canada , renamed so as to distinguish the organization from the American NGO of the same name. It was consolidated as a federal corporation in 2005, and all chapters were renamed as PFLAG Canada to reflect the changes. The organization currently lists over 70 chapters throughout nine provinces.
