    Charles Lewis Scott January 23, 1827 &ndash April 30, 1899 is a former United States American United States Democratic Party Democratic politician from California . Biography Charles L. Scott was born January 23, 1827 in Richmond, Virginia . His father was Robert G. Scott, well known attorney and politition of Richmond VA who was born in McIntosh Co. GA and died in AL. His mother was Susan Randolph Madison, daughter of Rt.Rev. Bishop James Madison of VA. His Grandfather was Col. William Scott, born 1752 in VA and lived in Camden Co. GA. Charles Lewis Scott attended the public schools and Richmond Academy. In 1846 he graduated from the College of William and Mary , Williamsburg, Virginia . He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1847, practicing in Richmond. During the 1849 California Gold Rush he went to California and mined gold. In 1851, he resumed practicing law in Sonora, California Sonora . Scott was a member of the State assembly during 1854&ndash 1856. In 1856 he was elected to the 35th Congress, serving until 1861. In Congress he met several famous men of the day and he married a young woman he met in Mobile, Alabama . When the American Civil War began he resigned his seat in Congress and joined the Fourth Regiment, Alabama Volunteer Infantry, of the Confederate Army , serving as major. He never returned to California. In 1861 he suffered a serious leg wound at the First .... Scott was born in 1872 and was educated at Burgoyne House Academy. He subsequently entered the Royal Navy. He served in the cruiser HMS Raleigh 1873 HMS Raleigh , the flagship of the Cape Squadron, between January 1889 and October 1890, and in the cruiser HMS Calypso 1883 HMS Calypso from December 1890 to November 1891. The Calypso was principally in Home waters but also made cruises to the West Indies and Norway . Scott was made Captain on 31 December, 1911. From October 1914 until March 1916 he commanded the light cruiser HMS Blonde 1910 HMS Blonde , which was attached to the 4th Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet , and moved to command HMS Dublin 1912 6 as part of the 2nd Light Cruiser Squadron between March and December 1916. In 1918 Scott was awarded the Order of the British Empire CBE . He retired from the Navy as vice admiral and died on 16 March 1969. He was the cousin of the Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott .     Charles Scott Bridges April 24, 1903 &ndash November 24, 1961 was an American corporate executive . Bridges was born at Bridges P.O., Gloucester County, Virginia . He was the youngest of the eleven children who grew to maturity of Thomas Francis Bridges, a farmer , merchant , and postmaster, and his wife Mary Otie Bartow Hughes Bridges. His paternal grandparents were John Alexander Bridges and Florida Stubblefield Bridges. His earliest known ancestor in Gloucester, Simon Stubblefield, had received a land grant there in 1688. After Bridges father suffered a stroke in 1912, the family moved to the city of Norfolk, Virginia Norfolk , where Bridges attended elementary school and Maury High School . In 1922, after completing high school, Bridges shipped out as an apprentice seaman on a Tramp steamer tramp ship , the S.S. Schroon, and for the first time saw the Caribbean and the Mediterranean , which he said later decided him on a career in international business . Returning to Virginia, he attended the University of Virginia for a year, worked for a year for a food brokerage concern, and then in 1924 became a salesman in Norfolk for Libby, McNeill, & Libby, one of the largest American producers of canned food s.
