    Charles A. Hughes was a Detroit businessman and ice hockey executive. He was one of the founders of the Detroit Red Wings National Hockey League NHL in 1926. The team was then known as the Detroit Cougars. The team would later change its name to the Falcons, and later the Red Wings , one of the most successful teams in NHL history. Red Wings career Hughes led a group of investors that got a NHL expansion franchise for Detroit in 1926. To stock the team with players, they purchased the Victoria Cougars of the Western Canada Hockey League in 1926. They transferred the team to Detroit, where they played in the National Hockey League as the Detroit Cougars. In 1927, on the advice of NHL President Frank Calder , Hughes hired Jack Adams ice hockey b. 1895 Jack Adams as coach and general manager of the team.     Charles Evans 19 February 1866 &mdash 14 January 1956 was an England English cricket er who played for Derbyshire County Cricket Club Derbyshire between 1889 and 1895. Evans was born at Newbold, Derbyshire the son of George Evans, an engine wright at a colliery and his wife Harriett. In 1881 Evans was an engine driver at the colliery at the age of 15. ref British Census 1881 ref Evans first match for Derbyshire was in the Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1889 1889 season in the period when Derbyshire s matches were not accorded first class status, and he played six games at intervals in the period taking 13 wickets at just over 18 runs each.     Charles Smart Evans 1778 4 January 1849 was an English vocalist and composer. Evans was a chorister under Dr. Ayrton, and in 1808 a gentleman of the Chapel Royal . His name appears among the alto singers in the chorus of the Ancient Concerts of 1798, and he took part with Braham and others in the music performed at Carl Maria von Weber Weber s funeral in 1826. Four of Evans s part songs gained prizes from the Glee and Catch Clubs, namely Beauties, have you seen a toy? 1811 Fill all the glasses, 1812 Ode to the Memory of Samuel Webbe, 1817 and Great Bacchus, 1821. Subsequently he became a catholic and a member of the choir of the chapel of the Portuguese embassy. Evans wrote a Magnificat, and some motetts, contained in books iv. and v. of Novello s Collection of Motetts. He was also the composer of many songs. He died on 4 January 1849.
