Born in Louisville, Kentucky , Allen received a Bachelor of Arts B.A. from Yale University in 1941 and an LL.B. from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1943. He was in private practice from 1944 to 1945, and was teacher at Arizona Desert School, Tucson, Arizona from 1945 to 1946, returning to private practice in Louisville, Kentucky from 1946 to 1955. He was an assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice from 1955 to 1959, and was again in private practice in Louisville from 1959 to 1961. He was a judge on the Jefferson County Circuit Court, Fourth Chancery Division, Kentucky from 1961 to 1971. On November 17, 1971, Allen was nominated by President Richard M. Nixon to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky vacated by Henry L. Brooks . Allen was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 23, 1971, and received his commission on November 30, 1971. He served as chief judge from 1977 1985, assuming senior status on October 1, 1985 and working in that capacity until his death, in Louisville. Born in Georgetown, Guyana Georgetown , Guyana , Allen emigrated to Canada, first to Brampton, Ontario Brampton where he attended Turner Fenton Secondary School , and then to Malton, Ontario Malton where he went to Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School . He competed for Guyana in the 2000 Summer Olympics , and still holds the Guyanese record in the 110 metres hurdles 110 m hurdles . Switching to the Canadian team for the 2004 Summer Olympics Allen made the finals in the 110 m hurdles after setting a new personal best time in each of the qualifying rounds. Finishing a respectable sixth, but in a slower time than he had hoped. He was also captain of Canada s 4 x 100 metres relay 4 x 100 m relay team, but the team failed to pass the qualifying stages. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , however Allen, won a bronze medal with the Canadian relay team.     Charles Allen Moye Jr. July 13, 1918 July 26, 2010 was a United States federal judge . Born in Atlanta, Georgia , Moye received an Bachelor of Arts A.B. from Emory University in 1939 and a Juris Doctor J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1943. He was in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia from 1943 to 1970, and was an unsuccessful candidate for U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia in 1954. On October 7, 1970, Moye was nominated by President Richard M. Nixon to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia created by 84 Stat. 294. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 13, 1970, and received his commission on October 16, 1970. He served as chief judge from 1979 1987, assuming senior status on January 1, 1988.     Charles Livingstone Allen 1913 &ndash August 30, 2005 was an American ordained Methodist minister most notable for his work as a Pastor . Born in Newborn, Georgia , he ministered around the state, including 1948 to 1960 at Grace United Methodist in Atlanta . During his tenure at Grace, it became the largest congregation in Georgia and while at First Methodist it became the largest Methodist congregation in the world at 12,000 members. In 1960, he moved to Houston, Texas where he served at First United Methodist until 1983. Allen was also a columnist for the Atlanta Journal and Atlanta Constitution during the 1950s and after that for the Houston Chronicle . He also authored inspirational books, including God s Psychiatry and Prayer Changes Things . The section of Parkway Drive which connects Highland Ave to Piedmont Park north of Ponce de Leon in Atlanta was renamed in his honor in the 1960s.     Charles Allen Thomas February 15, 1900 March 29, 1982 was a noted American chemist and businessman, and an important figure in the Manhattan Project . Thomas was born on a farm in Scott County, Kentucky , the son of Charles Allen and Frances Carrick Thomas. He received his BA 1920 and an honorary D.Sc. 1933 from Transylvania College , with an intermediate MA 1924 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . He was first employed as a General Motors research chemist from 1923 to 1936, helping to create the tetra ethyl lead compound long used in motor fuels, and at Thomas & Hochwalt Laboratories in Dayton, Ohio , from 1926 to 1936. He also served as vice president of Dayton Synthetic Chemicals, Inc. from 1930 34, and at Carbosolve Corporation from 1931 to 1936. After Monsanto Company acquired Thomas and Hochwalt Laboratories in 1936 making it into Monsanto s Central Research Department , he spent the rest of his career at Monsanto until his retirement in 1970, during which time he served as President 1951 60 and Chairman of the Board 1960 65 .
