They are ineligible in the other criteria for election as a Fellow of the RoyalSociety Fellow or Foreign Member of the RoyalSocietyForeign Member but have rendered signal service to the cause of science, or whose election would significantly benefit the Society by their great experience in other walks of life . The position of Honorary Fellow replaced that whereby Fellows could be elected under Statute 12. History The RoyalSociety of Portrait Painters was founded in 1891 by 24 artists who were dissatisfied with the selection policies of the Royal Academy for its annual exhibition in London. They formed themselves, as the Society of Portrait Painters, into a new body to be concerned solely with portrait painting. The Society was, and is, formed of members elected, on the basis of the quality of their work, by existing members. Members have an automatic right to display paintings at the annual exhibition, but most of the exhibits are selected, in addition, from non members of the society who submit their best recent portrait work for show. The RoyalSociety of Musicians of Great Britain is a Charitable organization charity in the United Kingdom that supports musician s. It is the oldest music related charity in Great Britain, founded in 1738 as the Fund for Decay d Musicians by a declaration of trust signed by 228 musicians, including Edward Purcell musician Edward Purcell eldest son of Henry Purcell , Thomas Arne , William Boyce composer William Boyce , Johann Christoph Pepusch , and George Frideric Handel . It still operates a bank account at Drummonds Bank now part of Royal Bank of Scotland which was opened by its first secretary, Michael Christian Festing , in November 1738. The Fund received patronage from George III , and it was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1790. Funds were raised by holding charity concerts, musical dinners, and music festival. The Royal Botanic Society was a learned society founded in 1839. Its purpose was to promote botany in all its branches, and its applications. Soon after it was established, it leased the grounds within the Inner Circle in Regent s Park , London for use as an experimental garden. The garden was open to members and their guests and also to the general public for a fee on certain days of the week. It included large palm houses and a water lily house. In the summer, flowershows, fetes, and other entertainments were held there. In 1932 it failed to secure a renewal of the lease, and the Society was dissolved. Its surviving record were deposited in the St. Marylebone Public Library. The site became Queen Mary s Gardens , which is run by the Royal Parks Agency , and is fully open to the general public without charge as part of Regent s Park.
