Unreferenced date December 2009 Canon Inc. Canon s T series is Canon s final series of manual focus 135 film 35 mm single lens reflex camera s. The first camera, the Canon T50 T50 , was introduced in March 1983 while the final camera, the Canon T60 T60 , was released in April 1990. All have a Canon FD lens mount compatible with Canon s extensive range of manual focus camera lens lenses . The T series attempted to update the SLR concept. In the early 1980s, the SLR market share was declining with the increased popularity of highly automated 35  mm compact camera s the T series introduced much more automation to the SLR camera, making it almost as easy to use as a point and shoot camera . The final model, the Canon T60 , was the odd one out it was introduced after the FD manual lens mount was already obsolete, and while it carried over a few T series styling cues, it was a manual camera supporting only aperture priority auto exposure. In addition, it was not even made by Canon themselves they subcontracted the manufacture to Cosina , and the chassis itself was based upon that of the Cosina CT 1 . Image Canon T60.jpg thumb Canon T60. The Canon T60 was the last manual focus Canon FD FD mount 135 film 35 mm single lens reflex camera single lens reflex SLR camera sold by Canon Inc. Canon it was introduced in 1990 , three years after the introduction of Canon s incompatible Canon EOS EOS system of autofocus SLRs and their Canon EF lens mount EF lenses . It was the final camera in Canon s Canon T series T series . It was introduced solely as a cheap SLR system for export. It was never sold in Canon s home Japan ese market. In some foreign markets, the higher price of the EOS cameras was a problem, while in others, there was demand for a cheap, largely manual camera for photography students and the like. The T60 shared little with the other T series models except for a superficial styling resemblance. Unlike them, it had only manual film loading, advance and rewind. Film speed and shutter speed were set with traditional dials. The only auto exposure mode supported was aperture priority AE. The camera would choose an appropriate shutter speed. Also supported, of course, was full manual exposure, aided by the camera s built in meter. Shutter speed range was 1 1000 second to 1 second, plus bulb photography bulb . Canon did not manufacture the T60. Like a number of other low end bodies sold by major camera companies such as the Nikon FM10 and Olympus OM2000 , it was both built by Cosina , and based upon Cosina s own Cosina CT 1 CT 1 chassis. Cosina subcontracted work for many other Japanese photographic firms as well as producing cameras to their own design. SLR sales were falling in 1983 from the market s 1981 peak, and Canon chose to try greater automation to revive sales and remain competitive. This approach had found favor in compact cameras such as the Canon AF35M AF35M Autoboy Japan or Sure Shot US . The T50 had a power winder built in giving a continuous shooting rate of 1.4 frames per second, as well as an advanced auto exposure mode, although it was still a manual focus camera. Unlike those compact cameras and the higher end models in the T series, the T50 did not have power rewind, relying on a manual crank. Until then, Canon had a history of making slightly modified Leica Camera Leica copies. The release of the VT showed for the first time that Canon could be a leader in 35mm rangefinder design. Canon kept the M39 lens mount Leica screw mount on the VT, and little else. They changed the film advance from a top mounted knob to a bottom mounted trigger. The tripod socket was moved to mount a trigger wind grip. They added a swing open back making the camera easier to load than previous bottom loading Canons. The VT used a cloth shutter curtain , and shutter speeds were from 1s to 1 1000, plus T and B. Available Canon lenses ranged from 25mm to 800mm, and offered lenses as fast as f 1.2. Flash sync is available for FP, M, and X. One of its best features was a 3 position viewfinder with rotating prisms, which could be set to 35mm, 50mm and RF.
