For the 4th century governor of Britain Lucius Septimius Roman governor Lucius Septimius was an Ancient Rome Ancient Roman soldier stationed in Ancient Egypt Ptolemaic Dynasty Egypt in the 1st century BC. He is remembered by history as one of the assassins of Pompey Pompey the Great . Septimius was the head of the Roman troops serving in the Egyptian army, at a time when Egypt was a vassal state of Rome. wikisource Gaius Oppius Gaius Oppius was an intimate friend of Julius Caesar . He managed the dictator s private affairs during his absence from Rome, and, together with Lucius Cornelius Balbus major Lucius Cornelius Balbus , exercised considerable influence in the city. According to Lives of the Twelve Caesars Suetonius Caesar , 56 , many authorities considered Oppius to have written the histories of the Spanish, African and Alexandrian wars which were published as the works of Caesar himself. It is now generally held that he may possibly be the author of the account of the Alexandrian war although the claims of Hirtius are considered stronger , but certainly not of the two first, although Barthold Georg Niebuhr Niebuhr confidently assigned the Bellum Africanum to him the writer of these took an actual part in the wars they described, whereas Oppius was in Rome at the time. He also wrote a life of Caesar and the elder Scipio . ref Martin Schanz , Geschichte der r mischen Literatur , i. p. 210 2nd ed., 1898 Teuffel Schwabe, History of Roman Literature Eng. trans. , 197 see also Cicero, Letters , ed. Although Antony s side was plagued by desertions, he still managed to narrowly win the battle. The desertions continued, however, and, in early August, Octavian launched a second, ultimately successful, invasion of Egypt. Octavian s Second Attack Octavian launched his second assault by land from east and west simultaneously, causing the city to fall without much of a fight.
