    Gwynedd Constabulary was the Home Office police force for the counties of Caernarfonshire , Anglesey and Merionethshire , Wales . The force was formed in 1950 by the merger of Caernarfonshire Constabulary , Anglesey Constabulary and Merionethshire Constabulary . It was itself amalgamated with Flintshire Constabulary and Denbighshire Constabulary in 1967, the combined force also being known as the Gwynedd Constabulary, renamed North Wales Police in 1974. Beddgelert passed to Gwyrfai Rural District , and Dolbenmaen to Ll n Rural District . Treflys parish was abolished, most of it becoming part of Dolbenmaen parish, with parts going to the urban district s of Criccieth and Porthmadog . He matriculation matriculated at Jesus College in 1804 and graduated in 1808. He became a member of Lincoln s Inn in 1808. After his ordination, he was curate of Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog , Anglesey , north Wales from 1809 to 1815, when he became curate of Llanfair is Gaer , Caernarfonshire . Its council was based in Pwllheli . It was formed on 1 April 1974 as a successor to the borough of Pwllheli , the urban district s of Criccieth and Porthmadog , along with Ll n Rural District , and part of Gwyrfai Rural District , all previously in the administrative county of Caernarfonshire . It was named after the river Afon Dwyfor Dwyfor . Dwyfor was notable for being the last stronghold of the Sabbatarian temperance movement in Wales. Under the terms of the Licensing Act 1961, local referendums prevented the opening of public house s on Sundays until 1982, and a further referendum on a 9 turnout reimposed Sunday closing between 1989 and 1996. It was abolished as a district when Gwynedd was reconstitued as a unitary authority on 1 April 1996 . It remains in use as an area covered by an area committee of Gwynedd Council .
