The primary purpose of this bulletin is to provide updated waiting list also known as Priority Date for immigrants that are subject to the quota system. Immigrants to the United States are categorized under those that need waiting list such as Worker Visa , and relatives of Permanent Resident and those who do not require waiting list such as husband or wife of US Citizen . For those Visas that require waiting list, there are sent number of Visas available on annual basis. For example there are about 23,000 visas available for Married sons and daughters of US Citizen so if the number of applicants in a year is over the available visa numbers, those applicants are placed in a queue and are given a priority date, which basically estimates when an applicant would get a visa based on the number of previous applicants in the queue. Visa Bulletin is a monthly publication that provides an updated monthly numbers of the list of applicants and the current priority date for those applicants. The publication normally is issued every second or third week of each month. It is the second oldest business in the City of Rockhampton , the oldest being the Criterion Hotel which was established in October 1860. The original owner, William Hitchcock Buzacott, brought the press and equipment form Sydney in 1861 where he operated a small weekly paper. At the time the paper was called the Rockhampton Bulletin and was eagerly read by the town s 698 residents. The Bulletin s original home was in Quay Street near the old Customs House, in a low wooden building. On August 14, 1862, this was burnt down and the presses destroyed. Buzacott quickly obtained new equipment from Sydney. The newspaper is printed daily Monday to Saturday and contains local, entertainment and information news. It is the only daily paper that serves the Central Queensland region. The Morning Bulletin is a part of the APN News & Media network which is one of Australia s largest newspaper publishers.
