  1. Buckwalter transliteration

The Buckwalter Romanization of Arabic Arabic transliteration was developed at Xerox by Tim Buckwalter in the 1990s. It is an ASCII only transliteration scheme, representing Arabic orthography strictly one to one, unlike the more common romanization schemes that add morphological information not expressed in Arabic script. Thus, for example, a waw letter transl ar DIN w w will be transliterated as w regardless of whether it is realized as a vowel IPA u or a consonant IPA w . Only when the transl ar DIN w w is modified by a transl ar DIN hamza h lang ar does the transliteration change to & . The unmodified letters are straightforward to read except for dhaal and E ayin, v thaa , but the transliterations of letters with diacritics and the harakat take some time to get used to, for example the nunation nunated transl ar DIN un, an, in appear as N, F, K , and the transl ar DIN suk n no vowel as o . transl ar DIN Ta marb ah lang ar is p . class wikitable style font size 110 small Arabic letters small lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ar lang ... 1. Google transliteration

Google transliteration formerly Google Indic Transliteration is a transliteration typing service for Indian languages. This tool first appeared in Blogger service Blogger , Google s popular blogging service http blogger.com hindi . Later on it came into existence as a separate online tool. Keeping in view its popularity it was embedded in GMail and Orkut . In December 2009 Google released its offline version named Google IME . This tool from Google is based on dictionary based phonetic transliteration approach. In contrast to older Indic typing tools which type by transliterating under a particular scheme , it transliterates by matching the Latin words with an inbuilt dictionary. So, users do not need to remember the transliteration scheme due to which this service is very easy and suitable for first time typists or beginners which are used to Romanagari . 1. International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration

IndicText The International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration IAST is a popular transliteration scheme that allows a lossless romanization of Brahmic family Indic scripts . Popularity IAST is the most popular transliteration scheme for romanization of Sanskrit and P i . It is often used in printed publications, especially for books dealing with ancient Sanskrit and P i topics related to Indian religions . With the wider availability of Unicode fonts, it is also increasingly used for electronic texts. The script is, however, insufficient to represent both Sanskrit and P i on the same page properly, owing to confusion of the vowel l sign in Sanskrit here and the need for the same sign for the retroflexive consonant , which is found in P i. Here it is better to follow Unicode and ISO 15919 , which is in any case a more comprehensive scheme. 1. Standard Arabic Technical Transliteration System

The Standard Arabic Technical Transliteration System , commonly referred to by its acronym SATTS, is a system for writing and transmitting Arabic language text using the one for one substitution of ASCII range characters for the letters of the Arabic alphabet. Unlike more common systems for transliterating Arabic, SATTS does not provide the reader with any more phonetic information than standard Arabic orthography does that is, it provides the bare Arabic alphabetic spelling with no notation of short vowels, doubled consonants, etc. In other words, it is intended as a transliteration tool for Arabists, and is of limited use to those who do not know Arabic. SATTS, a legacy of Morse and teleprinter systems see Background, below , has historically been employed by military and communications elements of Western countries for handling Arabic text without the need for native fonts or special software. Although its use has decreased in recent years with the demise of Morse code and the obsolescence of the teleprinter, and with the increased availability of native font software, it is still used for the quick and handy platform independent recording and transmission of Arabic terms and text. Format SATTS employs all the Latin alphabetic letters except P, plus four punctuation marks, for a total of 29 symbols all the letters of the Arabic alphabet, plus the glottal stop symbol hamzah .
