Unreferenced date December 2009 Nashoba County was a political subdivision of the Choctaw Nation in the IndianTerritory . The county formed part of the nation s Apukshunnubbee District , or Second District, one of three administrative super regions. Nashoba County was established by the Choctaw Nation s Doaksville Constitution of 1860. It ceased to exist on November 16, 1907, along with the Choctaw Nation and the IndianTerritory, upon the advent of Oklahoma s statehood. The territory comprising the former county is now included in the Oklahoma counties of Le Flore, McCurtain and Pushmataha. Nashoba is the word for wolf in the Choctaw language , and the county was often referred to as Wolf County. Its county seat was Nashoba Court House. Bordering Nashoba County on its east was the State of Arkansas. To its west was Cedar County, Choctaw Nation Cedar County , and to its north was Wade County. To the south were Bok Tuklo and Eagle counties. Mayhew, IndianTerritory , located two miles north of present day Boswell, Oklahoma , was the seat of government of the Pushmataha District of the Choctaw Nation , in the IndianTerritory . It was located in Jackson County, Choctaw Nation , the county seat of which was Pigeon Roost, south of present day Boswell. It ceased its functions upon preparation for Oklahoma s statehood in 1907, when the Choctaw Nation s government and political subdivisions were dissolved. History Mayhew was founded in 1836 by Presbyterian missionaries to the Choctaw Indians . They named it for Mayhew Presbyterian Mission in Mississippi. ref George H. Shirk, Oklahoma Place Names , p. 138. ref From here they ministered to the Choctaws, providing schooling, medical aid, and other services. A United States Post Office was established at Mayhew, IndianTerritory on February 5, 1845 and operated until September 30, 1902. It then moved two miles south to Boswell, which was then a new townsite along the new railroad, and changed its name to Boswell, IndianTerritory. Boswell was named for S.C. Sulphur Springs was a Choctaw Indian community formerly existing in the Choctaw Nation of IndianTerritory . It was located at the approximate location of present day Rattan, Oklahoma Rattan , in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma . Prior to establishment of a United States Post Office in 1910 with the name Rattan , the area was called Sulphur Springs. Sulphur Springs, located slightly to the southwest of the present day Rattan crossroads, was county seat of Cedar County, Choctaw Nation Cedar County in the Choctaw Nation. It was established by the Choctaw s Doaksville Constitution of 1860 and, in the manner of most Choctaw county seats, served a part time role as legal and political center. otheruses2 Fort Wayne Fort Wayne was established 1839 in IndianTerritory by Lt. Col. R.B. Mason of the U.S. 1st Cavalry Regiment 1st Dragoons . Named for Gen. Anthony Wayne Mad Anthony Wayne , it was intended as a link in the great line of forts protecting the American West . The army abandoned the fort in 1842 due to the high incidence of malaria suffered by soldiers assigned there, and turned it over to the Cherokee Nation. At the beginning of the American Civil War Civil War , Stand Watie took over the fort and organized the Cherokee Mounted Rifles. The Union met the Confederates near here in 1862 for the Battle of Old Fort Wayne . The old fort was located in present day Adair County, Oklahoma Adair County , near U.S. Hwy 59 just north of Watts, Oklahoma . An Oklahoma State Historical site marker can be seen alongside the highway. The marker was placed in the 1970s at the request of area residents. Up until this time most residents had no idea the fort had ever existed. Nothing remains of the fort and exact location is not known. The CD contains high quality coverage and a presentation of the highly diverse geographical, oceanographic features and Fisheries related aspects of 35 countries of IndianOcean in an interactive CD format. In addition, an online coverage of the various presentations in the conference was provided and presented to the delegates at the concluding ceremony of the conference limited to a specific period. The IndianOcean Whale Sanctuary is an area in the IndianOcean where the International Whaling Commission IWC has banned all types of commercial whaling. The IWC has at present designated two such sanctuaries, the other being the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary . Repeated proposals at the IWC for a South Atlantic Sanctuary and a South Pacific Sanctuary have never reached the 75 majority needed to pass. History The IndianOcean Sanctuary was established by the IWC in 1979 after being proposed by the tiny island nation of the Seychelles , in its first meeting as an IWC member, partly in order to protect whales in their breeding grounds.
