They played in Sal Maglie Stadium , an old football stadium awkwardly converted to baseball for each season. At the time, the stadium and the locker rooms were badly in need of renovation. There was a pool behind the structure, and when a hitter would foul one off the announcer would shout SPLASH into the microphone. The team mascot was an older man named Whitey , he was very entertaining and the crowd loved him. He was known throughout the NY P League as Whitey Sox The WhiteSox that year were managed by Luis Lagunas, and featured players coming in from college for their first year in the pros. Bobby Thigpen MSU , Jose Mota CSUF , Scott Kershaw UCLA , Michael Moore Cal, CSULA , Andre Toliver Arizona , John Von Ahnen Wagner College , and Randy Velarde were remembered players from the squad.
