Whenever their relationship is threatened, she brings them back together. Melissa conjures Ruggiero and Bradamante s descendants and foretells their futures. He is in love with Doralice , Princess of Granada , but she elopes with his rival Mandricardo. He tries to seduce Isabella but she tricks him into killing her by mistake. In remorse, Rodomonte builds a bridge in her memory and forces all who cross it to pay tribute. When the maddened Orlando character Orlando arrives at the bridge he throws Rodomonte into the river below. Finally, Rodomonte appears at the wedding of Bradamante and Ruggiero and accuses Ruggiero of treason for converting to Christianity and abandoning the Saracen cause.     Brunello is a character in the Italian romantic Epic poetry epic s Orlando innamorato by Matteo Maria Boiardo and Orlando furioso by Ludovico Ariosto . Brunello is a dwarf and a cunning thief who works for the Saracen army of King Agramante. He first appears in the second book of Orlando innamorato where Agramante intends to invade Europe and defeat the Emperor Charlemagne . He has been told he has no chance of success unless he has the young warrior Ruggiero character Ruggiero on his side, but Ruggiero has been hidden in a secret garden by the wizard Atlantes Sorcerer Atlante and the only way to reach him is by using the magic ring belonging to Princess Angelica character Angelica . Brunello undertakes to steal it and sets off for the fortress of Albracca where not only does he manage to snatch the ring but also robs King Sacripante of his horse from right underneath him and the female warrior Marfisa of her sword. Marfisa sets off in pursuit but Brunello evades her and gives the ring to Agramante, who rewards him with a kingdom. The Saracens find Ruggiero at Mount Carena where they see him behind a wall of glass. However, the wall is too steep and slippy to climb, so Brunello suggests they trick Ruggiero out. He gets them to play war games in the plain beneath the mountain. Ruggiero, with his inherent love of combat, cannot resist and in spite of Atlante s pleas he leaves the garden and begs Brunello for his horse and armour. Brunello only agrees if he will join their expedition against France, to which Ruggiero happily consents. In Orlando furioso Brunello is entrusted with the ring by Agramante. Thanks to a scholarship from the Saxon Prince elector s, he was able to study with Giovanni Battista Martini and counterpoint in Venice with G. Pera from 1765 to 1768. In 1776 he completed his first opera seria Didone abbandonata, after a libretto by Metastasio . It was given at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and by all accounts a great success. In the same year, the opera seria Demofoonte premiered in Forl . In the following years, Schuster s position was solidified with operatic successes in Naples and Venice. He was also recognized in Germany as an accomplished composer and his singspiel , Der Alchymist, oder Der Liebesteufel is considered one of the finest examples of the art form. Most of his works are assigned to the opera buffa , but he also composed religious works, chamber music and orchestral music. Life and career Born Lucia Valentini, she studied first at the Padua Music Conservatory, and later at the Accademia Benedetto Marcello in Venice. She made her stage debut in Brescia, as Angelina in La cenerentola , a role with which she would remain closely associated throughout her career. She made her debut at La Scala in 1973, again as Angelina, and quickly established herself in the Rossini repertoire, singing in L italiana in Algeri , Il barbiere di Siviglia , Il viaggio a Reims . She also sang the many Breeches role trouser roles such as Tancredi , Malcolm in La donna del lago , Pippo in La gazza ladra , Calbo in Maometto secondo , Arsace in Semiramide , Isolier in Le comte Ory , etc. She also sang a few roles of the baroque repertory, notably Alcina in Antonio Vivaldi Vivaldi s Orlando furioso Vivaldi Orlando furioso , and Bradamante in Handel s Alcina . However, she did not restrict herself to the belcanto and expanded her repertoire to include roles such as Cosi fan tutte Dorabella , Don Carlo Eboli , Falstaff opera Quickly , Mignon , Carmen , Werther Charlotte , Don Quichotte Dulcin e , Oedipus rex opera Jocasta . She enjoyed a very successful international career, appearing in Paris, London, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, etc. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1974, as Isabella L italiana in Algeri . Valentini married Italian actor Alberto Terrani, pseudonym of Alfredo Bolognesi, in 1973, and added his stage surname to hers. She was diagnosed with leukemia in 1996, and went to the famous Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle for treatment, where her colleague and friend Jos Carreras was treated for the same affliction.
