    Gustave Charles Bouvet IPA fr ystav buv was a France French anarchism anarchist who unsuccessfully tried to assassinate Alexandre Millerand , the President of the French Republic President of France . Bouvet was raised by priests in Antwerp , and returned at 14 years of age to Paris to live with his parents. He served as the secretary for the F d ration Anarchiste and was founder of the Journal des Jeunesses Communistes , of which he became secretary and director. In 1921, he was sentenced to a year in prison for publishing Anarchism anarchist propaganda . In April 1922, Bouvet was released from prison and took up residence on the Rue des Panoyaux. On 14 July, 1922, Bouvet made an attempt to assassinate President Alexandre Millerand. Millerand and other dignitaries were traveling in a procession of three carriages along the Champs lys es after returning from a Bastille Day military review. When the procession reached the corner of the Avenue Marigny at about 11 05, Bouvet drew a revolver from his pocket and fired two shots at the second car, which he mistakenly believed the President was riding in. Both shots went wide, apparently due to a bystander who grabbed Bouvet s arm before he was able to aim. Bouvet dropped the revolver in the ensuing struggle and attempted to run. A police cyclist who was accompanying the procession hurled his bicycle at Bouvet which caused him to fall. The crowd immediately attacked Bouvet and threatened to Lynching lynch him. The police, however, were able to pull Bouvet from the crowd and place him under arrest. Bouvet was found to be carrying another revolver and 25 cartridges in his pockets.     unreferenced date February 2010 File Jean Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier Hubert mg 8473.jpg thumb upright 200px Jean Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier Jean Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier January 14, 1705 1786 was a France French sailor , explorer , and governor of the Mascarene Islands . He was orphan ed at the age of seven and after having been educated in Paris , he was sent to Saint Malo to study navigation . He became a lieutenant of the French East India Company in 1731. He succeeded in convincing his employer to provide him with two ships and send him on an exploration mission in the South Atlantic . With his ships Aigle and Marie he discovered on January 1, 1739 a tiny island which was named Bouvet Island after him. Shortly afterwards, he had to abandon the expedition because most of his crew had fallen ill and returned to the Cape of Good Hope and later to France . Ten years after his expedition, Bouvet de Lozier was appointed governor of the Mascarene Islands twice, once from 1750 to 1752 and a second time from 1757 to 1763. Arrested with his father in Brest during the Reign of Terror , he was sent to Paris they were awaiting trial in Luxembourg prison when the Thermidorian Reaction occurred. 20 year old Bouvet embarked as lieutenant on the privateer Furet , only to be taken prisoner by the English and sent to Plymouth on a prison hulk. He was captured again five times before joining the crew of French ship Redoutable 1791 Redoutable , set for Guadeloupe. His behaviour in battle earned him the rank of lieutenant de vaisseau . On 1 June 1804, Bouvet married his cousin Henriette Perier d Hauterive. During their marriage, they had 15 children, of whom 10 died in their infancy. Bouvet later embarked on Atalante , set for the Indian Ocean. In 1806, Bouvet was prisoner in Bombay, where he observed patamar s. Back in le de France, Bouvet suggested the construction of an armed patamar to Decaen, in order to allow stealth attacks on the British. First roughly charted in 1898 by a German expedition under Karl Chun . The Norwegian expedition under Captain Harald Horntvedt made a landing on the island from the ship Norvegia in December 1927. They named it, probably after Lars Christensen , sponsor of the Norwegian expedition.
