The player controls a small craft, navigating it through a series of winding caverns and tunnels while shooting or avoiding obstacles. The caverns scroll from the bottom of the screen to the top at a fixed speed, so the player must always move forward. The obstacles filling the tunnels are mostly the creatures of the title and appear as simple icons like smiley faces, floppy diskettes, birds, eyes, apples, bunches of grapes, Pac Man ghosts, baseball hats, turrets, etc. Many of these objects are animated, but they cannot actually move around. Your craft fires bolts of energy simultaneously in three directions left, right and forward that destroy the creatures but consume the ship s energy, tracked by a green bar at the bottom of the screen. Energy is replenished by shooting occasional tanks on the tunnel walls. Special objects in the caverns include indestructible Rubiks cube like boxes that can be shot to gain extra points, thin wriggling snakes one of the cavern s few mobile opponents that cannot be destroyed, only avoided, and pulsing energy barriers. The craft is destroyed if you strike any object or the cavern wall, but a new one can be put back into play at any position on the screen. The game ends when your last craft is destroyed or when you beat the final challenge. The game s introduction promises that the end battle will be a surprise that no one can miss. 1. Crystal Cavern

disputed date March 2011 unreferenced date July 2007 Crystal Cavern is a small cavern located in Clay, Alabama , USA, on property once owned by Mr. Larry Shirley. In the early 1990s a steel gate was put up with signage saying it was Alabama Power property and unauthorized entry was illegal. According to Mr. Shirley, this cavern was once open to the public as an attraction in the 1920s, but the operators failed to inform the owners, who lived in Texas, that they had opened a business on the property. There is still the foundation of the old gift shop at the base of the mountain. The trail is steep and winding, but still has many of the concrete stairs put up in the 20s according to Mr. Shirley . Also, several of the internal stairs have been torn out and used for firewood over the years. A curious feature is the large amount of corrugated tin and old Defense Department water canisters inside the cavern. In places, the acoustics can make it sound like there is rushing water or even machinery on the other side of some of the walls. If you are able to visit this cave, look for the large flow on the right just before the largest chamber. Also there is a ledge over the main passage that is open to it on both ends. In the late 1980s, an effort to clean the cavern was made by a group of friends, who hauled a generator, shop style vacuum, and other cleaning equipment into the cave for three days of intense cleaning, mostly of trash left by other visitors and dust covering most of the interior crystal formations. As a result of this effort, renewed crystal formation was reported but not verified before the road leading back to the cave was blocked with steel gates bearing Alabama Power signs. This cave has also been known as Alabama Caverns and McCluney Cave through the years.
