Bismuth bronze is a bronze alloy that is very corrosion resistant. This property makes it suitable for use in environments such as the ocean. Bismuth bronze s composition varies slightly, depending on the purpose for which the it is to be used, but in all cases, the proportion of bismuth to bronze is very small. A hard bismuth bronze is created from 69 parts copper , 21 spelter , 9 nickel , and 1 part of a bismuth tin alloy 1 part bismuth, 16 parts tin . ref cite web url http chestofbooks.com crafts mechanics Workshop Receipts 3 Bismuth Bronze.html title Bismuth Bronze publisher Chestofbooks.com date accessdate 2010 10 24 ref By adjusting the composition to 52 parts copper, 30 parts nickel, 12 parts zinc , 5 parts lead , and 1 part bismuth, it will hold a polish. Pierre Bismuth b. 1963 in Neuilly sur Seine ref name AteliersdeRennes fr http www.lesateliersderennes.fr la programmation 2010 pierre bismuth Biographical notice on Les Ateliers de Rennes website. ref is a contemporary artist. Through efficient and often humorous gestures, Bismuth interrupts pre established codes of reading the images and objects that pervade daily life, from headline stories in newspapers to magazine clippings from gentlemen s magazines, to even the color of the walls. In his series From Red to Nothing and From Green to Something Else , Bismuth reproduces a painted wall in each exhibition, subtly altering the color by the addition of a small amount of white or colored paint to the original color. Another series Something less, Something More 2002 2006 consists of thin partitions out of which Bismuth removes circles until as little material as possible remained, while the circles removed from the partitions accumulate on the floor. Replaced by the Same 2003 , Bismuth plays on the idea of substituting one thing by its double for each photograph in this series, elements taken from duplicates are glued on exactly the same place as they were on the originals. Bismuth s work has been shown at Team Gallery New York , Jan Mot Brussels , Mary Boone Gallery New York , Cosmic Galerie Paris , Gallery Erna Hacey Brussels , the Villa Arson Nice and Lisson Gallery London . 1. Bismuth ferrite

Bismuth ferrite BiFeO sub 3 sub , also commonly referred to as BFO in Materials Science is an inorganic chemical compound with a perovskite structure. It is one of the most promising lead free piezoelectric materials by exhibiting multiferroic properties at room temperature. Multiferroic materials exhibit ferroelectric or anti ferroelectric properties in combination with ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic properties in the same phase. As a result, an electric field can induce change in magnetization and an external magnetic field can induce electric polarization. This phenomenon is known as the magnetoelectric effect ME effect and materials exhibiting this effect are called magnetoelectrics or seignetto magnets. Further proof of it being ferromagnetic is that it produces a hysteresis loop during ferroelectric characterization. The ability to couple to either the electric or the magnetic polarisation allows an additional degree of freedom in device designs. However one of the major drawbacks of the material is its high current leakage. Therefore it allows current to pass through when a high voltage is applied. Attempts to improve the electrical properties have been made by doping it with rare earth elements such as lanthanum La , samarium Sm , gadolinium Gd , terbium Tb and dysprosium Dy etc. The dopant can be at the A site or the B site. A site being the edges of the perovskite cell and the B site being the centre of the perovskite cell. Sample Preparation Solid state reaction The most common method is the solid state reaction method. Image Bismuth mined 2.PNG thumb right 300px Bismuth output in 2005. Bismuth IPAc en icon b z m is a chemical element that has the symbol Bi and atomic number 83. This heavy, brittle, white crystalline trivalent poor metal has a pink tinge and chemically resembles arsenic and antimony . Of all the metals, it is the most naturally Diamagnetism diamagnetic , and only mercury element mercury has a lower thermal conductivity . It is also generally considered as the last naturally occurring non radioactive element. Bismuth compounds are used in cosmetics and in medical procedures. As the toxicity of lead has become more apparent in recent years, alloy uses for bismuth metal as a replacement for lead have become an increasing part of bismuth s commercial importance. other uses LBE disambiguation Lead Bismuth Eutectic or LBE is a eutectic alloy of lead 44.5 and bismuth 55.5 used as a coolant in some nuclear reactor s, and is a proposed coolant for the lead cooled fast reactor lead cooled fast reactor , part of the Generation IV reactor initiative. It has a melting point of 123.5  C pure lead melts at 327  C and a boiling point of 1670  C. Lead bismuth alloys with between 30 and 75 bismuth all have melting points below 200  C. Alloys with between 48 and 63 bismuth have melting points below 150  C. ref http www.nea.fr html science reports 2007 pdf chapter2.pdf Handbook on Lead bismuth Eutectic Alloy and Lead Properties ref While lead expands slightly on melting and bismuth contracts slightly on melting, LBE has negligible change in volume on melting.
