He was a Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1962 to 1977, and served as Speaker politics Speaker of the Legislature for three years. Bilton was educated in England, and subsequently moved to Canada. He served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from 1931 to 1953, and retired with the rank of Staff Sgt. He was also the editor and publisher of the Swan River Star & Times , and a member of the Winnipeg Press Club.     Bilton Hall is a 17th century mansion house at Bilton, Warwickshire Bilton , near Rugby, Warwickshire Rugby , Warwickshire which has been converted into residential apartments. It is a Grade I listed building . In the 16th century the Manor of Bilton was owned by John Shuckburgh of Shuckburgh Hall , who sold it in 1610 to Edward Boughton of Lawford Hall. Boughton built the red brick and sandstone house in about 1623 for the occupation of his son William who, following the death of his father, was created Boughton Baronets Baronet Boughton in 1642. The house was generally occupied by junior members of the Boughton family and was sold by Edward Boughton in 1711 to the poet Joseph Addison . Following Addison s death in 1719 the house was occupied by Addison family members until it was sold , about 1799, to John Simpson MP John Bridgeman Simpson 1763 1850 of Babworh Hall, Babworth , a son of Henry Bridgeman, 1st Baron Bradford . Whilst the name is of viking origin, many of the fields in the area have saxon names eg Halikeld. Until the late 1950s, the village was the site of a major rural railway junction. Situated on the main Harrogate to Northallerton via Ripon railway line closed 1968 , a branch line closed 1963 ran westwards from Melmerby to the small market town of Masham , famous for brewing . A line closed 1959 also ran north eastwards linking Melmerby with the East Coast Main Line at Thirsk . The village is part of the parish of Melmerby and Middleton Quernhow, a small hamlet a quarter of a mile north of the village. The population is approximately 430. During the war the village was the site a a large munitions store, taking advantage of the railway access. They perform regularly in the local area and compete nationally in the 1st Section. The band are one of North Yorkshire s premier brass bands and are seen as a progressive and versatile band with strong community links who can provide music for any occasion. The Band have appeared on television many times on programmes such as Heartbeat UK TV series Heartbeat , Escape to the Country and The One Show . Recent Contest Performances The Harrogate Band are currently the reigning North of England 1st Section Champions, having won the 1st section contest at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington on March 20th 2011. Not only did the band win the 1st prize, but they also took home silverware for the Best Bass Section, Best Euphonium, Best Trombone and Best Percussion Section. This victory sees the band set to represent the North of England in the National Championships which will be held on 25th September 2011 at the Racecourse Centre, Cheltenham.
