Cleanup date September 2008 A bill of materials sometimes bill of material or BOM is a list of the raw materials, sub assemblies, intermediate assemblies, sub components, components, parts and the quantities of each needed to manufacture an Product business end product . No physical dimension is described in a BOM. ref name Reid Cite book last Reid first R. A BOM can define products as they are designed engineering bill of materials , as they are ordered sales bill of materials , as they are built manufacturing bill of materials , or as they are maintained service bill of materials . The different types of BOMs depend on the business need and use for which they are intended. In process industries, the BOM is also known as the formula , recipe , or ingredients list . In electronics, the BOM represents the list of components used on the printed wiring board or printed circuit board. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 An engineering bill of materials EBOM is a type of bill of materials BOM reflecting the product as designed by engineering, referred to as the as designed bill of materials. The EBOM is not related to modular BOM or configurable BOM CBOM concepts, as modular and configurable BOMs are used to reflect selection of items to create saleable end products. The EBOM concept aligns to sales BOMs as sold , service BOMs as changed based on changes due to field service . 1. Manufacturing bill of materials

A manufacturing bill of materials MBOM , also referred to as the manufacturing BOM, contains all the parts and assemblies required to build a complete and shippable product. MBOM is a type of bill of materials BOM . Unlike Engineering BOM, which is organized with regards to how the product is designed, the MBOM is focused on the parts that are needed to manufacture a product. In addition to the parts list in an EBOM, the MBOM also includes information about how the parts relate to each other. In a batch execution system such as ISA 88 , the MBOM will refer to the Formula part of the Recipe. A Recipe will include a Recipe Procedure and Equipment Requirements in addition to the Formula. The Recipe Procedure explains the steps that you go through to make the end product. The Equipment Requirements describes the machines and tools that are necessary to make the product. ref ANSI ISA 88.01 1995 ref . In ISA 95 terms, the MBOM will refer to the Material Specification in the Product Definition Model ref ANSI ISA 95.00.02 2001 ref . An MBOM is not the same as as manufactured or as built . The MBOM can be viewed as the ingredients in a recipe to make a cake, where as as built refers to the atual materials that were consumed to make the cake. In ISA 88 terms as built is the same as the batch record, in ISA 95 terms as built is the same as a Segment Response in Production Performance ref ANSI ISA 95.00.02 2001 ref . The details in an MBOM are good enough to allow it to be used in a Manufacturing Operations Management MOM System or Manufacturing Execution System MES . The MBOM typically contains more information than what is needed to do the MRP Materials Resources Planning part of an MPS Master Production Schedule in an ERP Enterprise Resource Planning system. 1. Labor and materials

Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 Labor and materials is a standard phrase in a contract for construction in which the buyer agrees to pay the general contractor contractor based upon the work performed by the contractor s employees and subcontractor s, and for materials used in the construction plus the contractor s mark up , no matter how much work is required to complete construction. This is opposed to a fixed price contract in which the buyer agrees to pay the contractor a lump sum for construction no matter what the contractors pay their employees, sub contractors and suppliers. Labor and materials contracts are not common because of the lack of an upper limit for the price paid by the buyer. However, if there is no time to send the job out for bids and complete construction, a labor and materials arrangement can save time. It is also a common arrangement where the original fixed price contractor abandons the work and another contractor must repair any damage caused by the first contractor and complete the work. Many labor and materials contracts also carry a guaranteed maximum price, which puts an upper limit on what the contractor may charge, but also allow the buyer to pay a lesser amount if the job is completed more quickly. 1. Materials system

Orphan date November 2006 Materials system is an advanced type of texture mapping that allows for objects in video games to simulate different types of materials in real life. This makes it so that the texture not only contains graphical data, but references for sound data and physics data such as density . For example, if a Texture visual arts texture makes an object look like wood, it will sound like wood if something hits it or its scraped along a surface , break like wood, and even float like wood. If it was made of metal, it will sound like metal, dent like metal, and sink like metal. This allows more flexibility when making objects in games. A materials system allows a designer to think about objects in a different way. Instead of the object just being a model with a texture applied to it, the object, or part of the object, is made up of a material. Currently there are these major materials wood, concrete or stone , metal, glass, dirt, water, and cloth such as carpeting .
