Unreferenced date February 2007 Orphan date November 2007 Bicentennial Square , also known as Centenary Square, is located in the heart of Parramatta, New South Wales Parramatta , New South Wales , Australia. It faces the 1883 Town Hall and St John s Cathedral. To celebrate the town s centenary, the 1888 Bourough Council erected this sandstone folly of a clock and drinking fountain. Set in the garden, this area was known as the Centenary Square and since 1988 as Bicentennial Square. Diagonally opposite Murray Bros. Ltd. erected the town s first Department Store in 1926 on the site where Rev. Samuel Marsden once lived. There are also many other features things in the square which reflects the square s history. These include plaques, sculptures and buildings. Features & history The Centenary Clock drinking fountain was built in 1888 and has played a big part in Parramatta s history of the square the Prominent Feature. Also in the square is an old tree with plauqes at the base. Each of which represents some history of the place. Another feature of the square is a sculpture.
