He served as commissioner of motor vehicles of the State of New York from 1921 to 1923, and was a member of the New York State Senate from 1930 to 1934. Lord was elected as a USRepublican Republican to the Seventy fourth, Seventy fifth, and Seventy sixth Congresses and held office from January 3, 1935 until his death in Washington, D.C. in 1939 interment was in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.
