    The Pauahi Crater is a depression 2000 feet long 610 metres and about 300 feet deep 90 metres located approximately 3 miles along the Chain of Craters Road on the Big Island of Hawaii island Hawaii . The Chain of Craters is made up of the Hiiaka Crater Hiiaka , Pauahi, Puu Huluhulu , Kane Nui O Hamo , Makaopuhi Crater Makaopuhi , and Napau Crater Napau craters. Eruptions in history Three eruptions have occurred near the Pauahi Crater in history. The first was in May 1973, when a fissure erupted briefly on the floor of the crater. The November 1973 eruption lasted a total of 31 days 10 November 9 December but most of the activity was during the first 10 hours of the first day. The second eruption created a set of echelon fissures that extended from just west of the crater, across the crater floor, and east of the crater almost to Puu Huluhulu, a total distance of about 2 miles 3 km . The third explosion occurred on 16 November 1979 and lasted only 1 day. It was revealed early on that Bernice has been a cop since she was 18 years old and that she has been in the force for over 30 years. It has also been shown that she has a teenage son, Josh who was murdered in the 2009 season finale. She also appears to be friends with Detective Senior Sergeant Stanley Wolfe and Assistant Commissioner Bill Mulholland. Recently, Bernice was accused of corruption and was suspended from the police force. She looked desperately to prove she had been set up. The climax of this storyline saw Bernice s son Josh being kidnapped by the man framing her. It was revealed to be the brother of a former police officer who Bernice had a hand in dismissing from the force and who became deeply depressed and committed suicide prior to this. Neugarten obtained her undergraduate degree in English and French Literature and she also obtained a Master s degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Chicago all before she was twenty one years old. In 1960, Neugarten was the first person at the University of Chicago to gain tenure in the field of Human Development and began many studies on the Lifespan and Human Aging. Neugarten was well recognized in the research community, and was the coauthor or editor of eight books and the author of more than 150 Journal articles. Bernice Neugarten died in her apartment in Hyde Park, Chicago on Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the age of 85.
