The Berkshire Museum is a museum of natural history , art and ancient civilization that is located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts Pittsfield , Berkshire County, Massachusetts Berkshire County , Massachusetts , United States . The museum was founded in 1903 by Zenas Crane, grandson of the founder of paper maker Crane Paper Company Crane & Company , under the auspices of the Berkshire Athenaeum . The vision was to create an educational community museum for all ages. The museum became independent in 1932. The Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum was founded in 1984, as a not for profit organization. The same year, the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum began operating passenger excursions between Lee and Great Barrington, over tracks owned by the Housatonic Railroad. Due to deteriorating track conditions, passenger operations were suspended in 1989. The excursion trains returned in 2003, based out of the Lenox Railroad Station restored station in Lenox , with regular schedules to Lee and Stockbridge. Berkshire Constabulary was merged with several other adjacent police forces in 1968 to form the Thames Valley Police .     Leverton is a small hamlet in West Berkshire , England , close to the border with Wiltshire around Convert 2 mi km 0 abbr on north west of Hungerford . Leverton was the Berkshire part of the civil parish of Chilton Foliat which was half in Wiltshire and half in Berkshire, until transferred to Hungerford parish in the 1890s. It is a remarkably complete survival of an 18th 19th century estate village, belonging to the Chilton Lodge estate, and comprises a Model Farm , Gardener s Bothy, Head Gardener s cottage, Kitchen Garden with a full set of boiler houses and potting sheds, thatched Apple Store and a range of six thatched pepperpot cottages originally inhabited by estate workers. The kitchen garden was restored to production in the late 1980s by the BBC for the Victorian Kitchen Garden series and also featured in subsequent spin offs such as The Victorian Kitchen and The Victorian Flower Garden . The hamlet also retains a set of stocks though the originals were removed to the Ashmolean Museum , Oxford in the 1990s and were replaced by a non functioning replica.
