The uprising began on Plantation Magdalenenberg on the Canje River in Berbice . The slaves rebelled, protesting harsh and inhumane treatment, and took control of the region. As plantation after plantation fell to the slaves, the European population fled. Eventually only about half of the whites who had lived in the colony remained. Led by Cuffy person Cuffy now the national hero of Guyana , the rebels came to number about 3,000 and threatened European control over the Guianas . The insurgents were defeated with the assistance of troops from neighboring French and British colonies and from Europe. The Society of Berbice Dutch language Dutch Soci teit van Berbice was founded on 24 October 1720 by the owners of the Berbice colony of Berbice . The team came from the Dutch colony of Berbice , which is now a county of Guyana . This institution was established with the intention of providing quality Tertiary education tertiary level education to Berbice Berbicians and those resolved to expanding their intellectual and social experiences. During its early stages, UGBC offered two year undergraduate certificate programmes in education various options and diploma programmes in accountancy , English, history, marketing , public management and social work . Degree programmes were subsequently offered the degree in agriculture and the associate degree in general science various options were offered in the 2001 2002 academic year, and degrees in public management and education as well as the post graduate diploma in education were offered in the 2002 2003 academic year. Currently, UGBC offers certificate, diploma and sssociate degrees and degree programmes in four Divisions the School of Education and Humanities and the Divisions of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Agriculture. The Berbice Campus is extensive and spreads out over two locations, one in Tain and another in Johns. Its suppression marked the end of the German Revolution . The name Spartacist uprising is generally used for the event even though neither the Spartakusbund nor the Communist Party of Germany KPD initiated or led the uprising and only participated after it had already begun. It was one of a number of elements that contributed to German disillusionment with the Weimar Republic Weimar Government . Beginning The uprising began after the January 4 discharge of the Berlin Chief of Police Emil Eichhorn , a member of the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany Independent Social Democratic Party USPD by the Council of the People s Deputies Rat der Volksbeauftragten , whose politics were mainly controlled by Friedrich Ebert from the Social Democratic Party of Germany Social Democratic Party SPD since the USPD left the committee December 29, 1918. Eichhorn had refused to take up arms against strike action striking workers in the Christmas turmoils on December 24, so that Ebert considered him to be unreliable. Several workers then spontaneously seized the editorial office of a newspaper in the Kochstra e in Berlin and erected barricades on the streets.
