In the 1610 s he was an agent and receiver dn to Lord Lambert s land s neart Athlone , County Westmeath he appeared as a witness for dowager Lady Lambert in the 1630 s . He appears to have been among the native grantees who received land in the plantation of his locality around the year 1620. Cionga was employed from 1627 by William Bedell , later Bishop of Kilmore , to teach Irish to himself and students at Trinity College, Dublin . Under Bedell s influence, Cionga converted and was ordained a priest on 23 September 1633. This provided him with an income while he translated the Old Testament and Apocrypha into Irish, been selected as an acknowledged master of the language, post in prose and verse. It was published in 1685 under the title Leabhuir na Seintiomna ar na ttarruing go Gaidhlig trechiram & dhithracht an Doctuir Uilliam Bedel The Books of the Old Testament translated into Irish by the care and diligence of Doctor William Bedel. By the end of his life, serious questions had arisen concerning Cionga s fitness to be a Church of Ireland minister Christianity minister . He was accused of attending Catholic mass with his family, inappropriately administering baptism and holy communion . Bedell defended him, concerned that attacks on Cionga s character would detract from the reputation of the translation. Marburg s last Karzer inmate, for example, was registered as late as 1931. Karzer punishment was formally abolished by Nazi university regulations. While Karzer arrest originally would have been a severe punishment, the respect for these punishment diminished with time, particularly in the 19th century, as it came a matter of honour to have been incarcerated at least once during one s time at university. At the end of 19th century, as the students in the cell became responsible for their own food and drink and receiving of visitors became permitted, the punishment would often turn into a social occasion with excessive consumption of alcohol. Gerard Langbaine 15 July 1656 23 June 1692 was an English dramatic biographer and critic, best known for his An Account of the English Dramatic Poets 1691 , the earliest work to give biographical and critical information on the playwrights of English Renaissance theatre . He is sometimes called Junior or the Younger to distinguish him from Gerard Langbaine the elder his father 1609&ndash 58 of the same name, a Doctor of Divinity who was Provost of Queens College, Oxford 1646&ndash 58 and Keeper of the University Archives. Life The younger Langbaine was born in the parish of St. Peter in the East, Oxford his father s second son, he was apprenticed to a bookseller in St. Paul s Churchyard in London, but was sent to University after his older brother William died in 1672. He was educated at University College, Oxford , married, and settled in the neighborhood of Oxford. In 1690 he acquired a post at the University, as yeoman bedel in arts, and in the following year was promoted to esquire bedel of law and architypographus. ref Stephen, Leslie, ed.
