The Prague RadioSymphonyOrchestra Symfonick orchestr esk ho rozhlasu is based in Prague in the Czech Republic. History Regular radio broadcasting began in the Czech Republic in May, 1923. Live classical musical broadcasts became very popular. It was soon realized that a full time dedicated orchestra was required and on October 1, 1926, the Radiojournal Orchestra was founded under conductor Jozka Charv t . In 1952, the popularity and size of the Radiojournal Orchestra was such that a second orchestra, the Prague RadioSymphonyOrchestra, was split off from the Radiojournal Orchestra. Over the years many orchestra members were involved in other groups and subgroups, some associated with the radio station and others not. By the 1960s there were actually two completely separate orchestras working for the station. These were the Prague RadioOrchestra and the Prague RadioSymphonyOrchestra. The Southwest German RadioSymphonyOrchestra also known in English as the SWR Baden Baden and Freiburg SymphonyOrchestra or SWR SymphonyOrchestra , and in German as the Sinfonieorchester des S dwestrundfunks or SWR Sinfonieorchester is a radioorchestra located in the German cities of Baden Baden and Freiburg . The first incarnation of the orchestra occurred in 1946, initially with members of the discontinued spa orchestra of the city as the core of players. The revival of the spa orchestra two years later forced the reorganization of the radioorchestra. Subsequently, Hans Rosbaud was hired as the orchestra s first chief conductor. Rosbaud was already well known as a champion of modern music, and Heinrich Strobel, the music director in charge of the orchestra, shared this sympathy with contemporary music. Thus the orchestra had, and continues to have, as its focus performances of modern music. ref Potts, Joseph E., European Radio Orchestras Western Germany September 1955 .
