  1. Batch renaming

Batch renaming is a form of batch processing used to rename multiple computer files and folders in an automated fashion, in order to save time and reduce the amount of work involved. Some sort of software is required to do this. Such software can be more or less advanced, but most have the same basic functions. Batch renaming software exists for most operating systems . Batch renaming can also be referred to as mass file renaming , rename en masse and bulk renaming . Common functions Most batch renamers share a basic set of functions to manipulate the filenames Find a string within the filename and replace it with another, or remove it. Setting the capitalization of the letters in the filenames. Extracting information from the files, such as Mp3 ID3 tags, and putting it in the filename. Add a number sequence 001,002,003,... to a list of files. Some batch rename software can do more than just renaming filenames. Features include changing the dates of files and changing the file attributes such as the write protected attribute . Common uses There are many situations where batch renaming software can be useful. Here is a list of some common uses Many digital cameras store images using a base filename, such as DCSN0001 or IMG0001. 1. Batch production

Unreferenced date December 2009 Manufacturing Batch production is the manufacturing technique of creating a group of components at a workstation before moving the group to the next step in production. Batch production is common in bakeries and in the manufacture of sports shoes, pharmaceutical ingredients Active ingredient APIs , inks, paints and adhesives. In the manufacture of inks and paints, a technique called a colour run is used. A colour run is where one manufactures the lightest colour first, such as light yellow followed by the next increasingly darker colour such as orange, then red and so on until reaching black and then starts over again. This minimizes the cleanup and reconfiguring of the machinery between each batch. White by which is meant opaque paint, not transparent ink is the only colour that cannot be used in a colour run because a small amount of white pigment can adversely affect the medium colours. The Chemicals, Tire, and Process Industries CTP chemical, tire, and process industry CPT segment uses a combination of batch and process manufacturing depending the product and plant. Advantages and Disadvantages There are several advantages of batch production it can reduce initial capital outlay because a single production line can be used to produce several product business products . As shown in the example, batch production can be useful for small businesses who cannot afford to run continuous production lines. If a retailer buys a batch of a product that does not sell, then the producer can cease production without having to sustain huge losses. Batch production is also useful for a factory that makes seasonal items, products for which it is difficult .... Batch production also has disadvantages. There are inefficiencies associated with batch production as equipment must be stopped, re configured, and its output tested before the next batch can be produced ... manufacturing cost. 1. Fed-batch

Unreferenced date December 2007 File Fed batch reactor FSTR.svg thumb 80px Fed batch reactor symbol A fed batch is a biotechnological batch process which is based on feeding of a growth limiting nutrient substrate to a culture. The fed batch strategy is typically used in bio industrial processes to reach a high cell density in the bioreactor . Mostly the feed solution is highly concentrated to avoid dilution of the bioreactor. The controlled addition of the nutrient directly affects the growth rate of the culture and allows to avoid Crabtree effect overflow metabolism formation of side metabolites, such as acetate for Escherichia coli , lactic acid in cell cultures, ethanol in Saccharomyces cerevisiae , oxygen limitation anaerobiosis . Image Fed batch principle.png thumb The graph shows the principle of a substrate limited fed batch cultivation with an initial batch phase. After consumption of the initial substrate a continuous feed of this substrate is started. Substrate limitation offers the possibility to control the reaction rates to avoid technological limitations connected to the cooling of the reactor and oxygen transfer. Substrate limitation also allows the metabolic control, to avoid osmotic effects, catabolite repression and overflow metabolism of side products.
