    Leonard Hub Hubbard is a former band member of The Roots and played bass for the Philadelphia outfit from 1992 to 2007. He played on all of their records until his departure from the group, including 1999 s Things Fall Apart album Things Fall Apart and 2004 s The Tipping Point album The Tipping Point . He is known for always having a Teeth cleaning twig chew stick in his mouth, both on and off the stage. Hub s smooth bass lines and distinct style make The Roots stand out in their field of music. The current Roots bassist, Owen Biddle , stepped aside as Black Thought welcomed back Hubbard. The band played Mellow My Man with Hub before stepping back to watch him solo. Following the solo, Hub shook hands with everyone and watched from sidestage for the rest of the show. Leonard was just invited back for the Roots Picnic on June 5th 2010, where he played a song with the Roots as current bassist Owen Biddle stepped aside once again.     William Taylor Sr. April 3, 1906 &ndash September 2, 1986 was an American jazz bassist. He was born Washington, D.C. and died in Fairfax, Virginia . Taylor began playing tuba but later picked up bass alongside it. After moving to New York City in 1924, he played with Elmer Snowden 1925 , Willie Gant and Arthur Gibbs 1926 , Charlie Johnson bandleader Charlie Johnson 1927 29, 1932 33 , Duke Ellington 1928 , McKinney s Cotton Pickers 1929 31 , Fats Waller 1934 , and Fletcher Henderson . From 1935 to 1940 he again played with Ellington, and it is for this association that he is best known he often played with a second bassist in the orchestra, at times Hayes Alvis or Jimmy Blanton . During that time he also recorrded with Cootie Williams and Johnny Hodges . In the 1940s he played with Coleman Hawkins 1940 , Red Allen 1940 41 , Joe Sullivan 1942 , Raymond Scott 1942 43 , Cootie Williams 1944 , Barney Bigard 1944 45 , Benny Morton 1945 , and Cozy Cole 1945 .     Mark Morton born September 1, 1962 is the Assistant Professor of Double Bass at Texas Tech University, Principal Double Bassist of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, and the Artistic Director of The American School of Double Bass. Dr. Morton was formerly a member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra for twenty three years and for fourteen of those years, he was the principal double bassist. In 1990, Dr. Morton won first prize for the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition, and was the assistant to Gary Karr at the Hartt School of Music. He holds four Degrees from the Juilliard School in New York and subsequently was the second bassist ever to graduate with a Doctorate from that Institution. As a busy recitalist and concerto performer, Dr. Morton has been a frequent performer on radio broadcasts including NPR s Peformance Today , WGBH in Boston, and WQZR in New York. Dr. Morton has also soloed internationally with groups such as the National Orchestra of Chile, the Houston Symphony , and the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific. He replaced Frank Bello on the Size Matters tour, but was unable to join the band due to other commitments. He rejoined the band for the Warped Tour in support of Monochrome album Monochrome however, he did not appear on the album because of prior commitments while it was being recorded. Chatelain left the band in September 2006, along with fellow members Chris Traynor and Mike Jost . Prior to joining Helmet, Chatelain was the bassist for Jets to Brazil . He was also the vocalist for Handsome band Handsome , which included ex Helmet guitarist Peter Mengede and ex Quicksand guitarist Quicksand band Tom Capone . Chatelain also played guitar in Salt Lake City s hardcore staight edge band Insight in the early 1990s and provided vocals for the first 5 member lineup of Iceburn . Both of these early bands released 7 inch recordings on the Victory Records label. Jeremy also has a collaborative effort, Cub Country . Biography In the early 1970s, Stevens was a audio engineering sound engineer for Manfred Mann s Earth Band , Soft Machine , Ronnie Lane s Slim Chance, Renaissance band Renaissance , Fusion Orchestra, Status Quo and Curved Air . In 1973, Stevens worked on the Star Trucking concert tour tour of Europe with Soft Machine , Mahavishnu Orchestra , Weather Report , Wishbone Ash , Climax Blues Band and Lou Reed . During his tenure with Soft Machine, his interest in music, electronics and audio enabled him to co design one of the world s first quadraphonic public address systems in 1974. Stevens took up fretless bass in the mid 1970s, and was mainly influenced by Alphonso Johnson Weather Report and Ralphe Armstrong Mahavishnu Orchestra . However, his biggest influence was Percy Jones . Stevens primary musical project during the 1990s was The Avant Gardeners . Their album Bob s Your Uncle was released in 1996 by Outer Planet Records. In 1998, Stevens was offered the opportunity to step into the shoes of bassist Percy Jones as bass player for Brand X.     No footnotes date January 2011 Alvin Buddy Banks born January 15, 1927 was a jazz double bass ist. He was born in St. Thomas, Ontario , Canada Banks grew up in the United States , and traveled to Europe with the U.S. military in 1948. His first appearance on record was in Vienna with Thurmond Young this group also played live at the Colored Club. He played in Paris with Gerry Wiggins in 1950, and then with Bill Coleman in Berne , Switzerland , Belgium , and Le Havre, France . After problems with his passport in Switzerland, he left for Paris in 1953, where he recorded often with expatriate American jazz musicians as well as local performers. These include Hazel Scott , Buck Clayton , Lionel Hampton , Mezz Mezzrow , Don Byas , Albert Nicholas , and Andr Persiany .     Michael Moore born May 16, 1945, Glen Este, Ohio is an American jazz bassist. Moore started on bass at age 15, at Withrow High School in Cincinnati , where he performed in various ensembles as well as the Presentation Orchestra in George G. Smittie Smith s famed The Withrow Minstrels. He played with his father in nightclub s in Cincinnati . He attended the Cincinnati College Conservatory , playing with Cal Collins and Woody Evans locally. He toured Africa and Europe with Woody Herman in 1966, and recorded with Dusko Goykovich while in Belgrade . In the 1970s he worked with Marian McPartland , Freddie Hubbard , Jim Hall musician Jim Hall , Benny Goodman , Jake Hanna , Warren Vache , Herb Ellis , Zoot Sims , Ruby Braff , George Barnes musician George Barnes , Chet Baker , and Lee Konitz . Late in the decade he began working with Gene Bertoncini , with whom he would play into the 1990s. In the 1980s he worked with Sims again as well as with Kenny Barron and Michael Urbaniak . As of 2008 Moore is a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet .     Ike Isaacs March 28, 1923 February 27, 1981 was an American jazz bassist from Ohio . Isaacs played trumpet and tuba as a child before settling on bass. He served in the United States Army Army during World War II , where he took lessons from Wendell Marshall . Following this he played with Tiny Grimes 1948 50 , Earl Bostic 1951 53 , Paul Quinichette 1953 , and Bennie Green 1956 . He led a band locally in Ohio in 1956, then played for two years in the trio of Carmen McRae , whom he married late in the decade. He worked with Lambert, Hendricks and Ross , then with Count Basie 1962 , Gloria Lynne 1962 64 , and Erroll Garner 1966 70 , as well as with his own small groups. He recorded only once as a leader, in 1967 for RGB Records . On this recording he plays in a trio with Jack Wilson jazz pianist Jack Wilson on piano and Jimmie Smith on drums.
