    Sir Bartholomew de Burghersh, 2nd Baron Burghersh Order of the Garter KG bef. 1329 &ndash 5 April 1369 was an English nobleman and soldier. Bartholomew first bore arms in the War of the Breton Succession , in the expedition of 1345. He fought as a knight banneret in the division of the Edward the Black Prince Prince of Wales at the Battle of Cr cy 1346 and was present at the Siege of Calais 1346 Siege of Calais 1347 . In 1348, he was one, the ninth, of the twenty five Founder Knights of the Order of the Garter . He was made constable of Wallingford Castle in 1351. He succeeded his father, Bartholomew de Burghersh, 1st Baron Burghersh as Baron Burghersh in 1355. Continuing in the French wars, he was with the Black Prince in his chevauch e of 1356, and held off a French ambush outside Romorantin , a battle which ended in the capture of that city. Family inheritance Giles father had been hanged, drawn and quartered in April 1322 for having participated in the Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster Earl of Lancaster s rebellion against King Edward II of England . Bartholomew had joined the rebels in retaliation for the arrest of his wife, Margaret and their children, all of whom were sent to the Tower of London when Margaret refused to admit Queen consort Isabella of France Isabella to Leeds Castle where Bartholomew held the office of governor. His title and estates were attainder attainted , therefore Giles did not succeed to the barony. The latter was seven years old at the time he was imprisoned and lost his father. Michael de Poynings was summoned to Parliament as a baron from 25 February 1342 to 24 February 1368. On account of the valiant conduct of his father, Thomas, who died in 1339 in battle at the storming of Hunycourt in Vermandois , France, the King received Michael s homage, though under age, and granted him livery of his lands and full benefit of his marriage taking security for the payment of the relief. Poynings gave a thousand marks to Queen Philippa of Hainault in 1366 for the wardship and marriage of William son and heir of John Lord Bardolf to the end that he might take Agnes his daughter to wife, who by the name of Agnes Bardolf is mentioned as a legatee in the will of her mother, Joane Lady Poynings, dated 12 May 1369, and by that of Lady Bardolf my sister in the Will of Thomas Lord Poyings 28 October 1374. Sir Michael de Poynings, 2nd Baron Poynings, married Joane d. 11 May 1369 , daughter of Sir Richard Rokesley, Knight, and widow of Sir John de Molyns, Knight.
