Hilary Bok born 1959 is the Henry R. Luce Professor of Bioethics and Moral & Political Theory at the Johns Hopkins University . Bok received a B.A. in Philosophy from Princeton University in 1981 and her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1991. She served as Associate Professor of Philosophy at Pomona College from 1997 to 2000. Bok was also a Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Fellow at the Princeton University Center for Human Values from 1994 to 1995. Her areas of specialization are bioethics , moral philosophy , free will , and the works of Immanuel Kant . She is a faculty member of the Berman Institute of Bioethics. Bok is the author of Freedom and Responsibility 1998 , a Kantian critique of Libertarianism metaphysics libertarian theories of free will. More recently, she has written extensively about stem cell research , most notably in The Lancet . The word l hong means papaya in Khmer. The word bok refers to the ingredients being beaten with a mortar and pestle . Despite the use of papaya, which one may think of as sweet , this salad is actually Umami savoury . When not yet ripe, papaya has a slightly tangy flavor. The texture is crisp and firm, sometimes to the point of crunchiness. It is this that allows the fruit to withstand being beaten in the mortar. There are many versions of this salad in Cambodia , but it will always include unripe papaya. Green papaya is also used as a vegetable in other Khmer dishes such as soups and stews. The Bok House was an old mansion on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The compound where the building stood is a block away from the Petronas Twin Towers , owned by a private trustee managed by the Bok family. The mansion was designed by Swan and Maclaren in 1926 and it was completed in 1929 for a local millionaire, Chua Cheng Bok . In the 1960s and up until its closure in 2001, the mansion housed an upscale restaurant called the Le Coq d Or . Demolition and Controversy In 2001, the building was abandoned by the operator of Le Coq d Or. Being located on a high value land, plan for redevelopment emerged but it received opposition from local conservation groups. Initially, the local government denied there were plans to redevelop the land and hence, the possibility of demolishing the building. Local conservation groups later tried to lobby the government to gazette the mansion for its historical value but to no avail. On December 15 2006, the mansion was demolished, resulting in public outcry. The building was only 77 years old when demolished.
