For instance, a layer of barrier metal must surround every copper interconnection in modern copper based chips , to prevent diffusion of copper into surrounding materials. As the name implies, a barrier metal must have high electrical conductivity in order to maintain a good electronic contact, while maintaining a low enough copper diffusivity to sufficiently chemically isolate these copper conductor films from underlying device silicon. The thickness of the barrier films is also quite important with too thin a barrier layer, the inner copper may contact and poison the very devices that they supply with energy and information with barrier layers too thick, these wrapped stacks of two barrier metal films and an inner copper conductor can have a greater total resistance than the traditional aluminum interconnections would have, eliminating any benefit derived from the new metallization technology. Her birth name was Ernestine Spratt, but she used the stage name of Ernestine De Becker after her mother s maiden name . She is noted for being the first actress to play a female president of the United States, in the film Project Moonbase . Descended from an acting family, she continued the familial theater tradition, her husband was Edgar Barrier , and her son was Michael Barrier . Ms. Barrier made her first stage appearance at the age of roughly six months when she was carried onstage by her mother Nesta De Becker, also an actress. Ms Barrier acted into her eighties appearing on such television shows as Charlie s Angels , CHiPs, and The Waltons . Her films include A Family Upside Down with Helen Hayes and Fred Astaire , Lust for Life with Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn , and The Bottom of the Bottle with Van Johnson and Joseph Cotton .She is also known for her work in the 1930s on Broadway where she appeared as Ernestine De Becker in The Seagull, Amphitryon 38, Idiot s Delight, The Taming of the Shrew, and Late One Evening. In 1946 she returned to Broadway using her married name of Ernestine Barrier appearing with her husband Edgar Barrier in On Whitman Avenue.
