When the NMBCA was formed, Dr. S. M. Lockridge of San Diego, California was elected president of the Convention and served until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement a series of events and contested elections eventually brought about the formation of the Institutional Missionary Baptist Conference of America around 1999. Dr. H.J. Johnson, of Dallas, Texas , General Secretary of the Convention, ran for the presidency in 1995 and again in 1998. Ebenezer Baptist Church was the first African American church built in the Auburn area after the end of the US Civil War Civil War in 1865. That year, a plantation owner donated the property on which the church sits to one of his former slaves. Over the next few years, the church members built the church out of hand hewn logs, transported from miles away by mules. The church was completed around 1870 and served the Ebenezer congregation until 1969. The building was restored in 1970 by the Auburn Heritage Association, and currently houses the Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 21, 1975, and is located at 450 E. Thach Avenue in Auburn.     The Catholic Indian Missionary Association was a Roman Catholic fund raising organization that supported Catholic schools and mission work among Native Americans in the United States . History In 1875, Catholic lay women organized the association in Washington, D.C. , and other major U.S. cities, with Jean Baptiste Brouillet as its director and treasurer and Ellen Ewing Sherman as its principal organizer and fundraiser. It raised 48,700 in donations and bequests for the Catholic Indian Mission Fund , which supported the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions and Catholic missions and schools on Indian reservations. The chapters in St. Louis, Missouri and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania raised the bulk of its funds and 6,000 was the most raised in any one year. Royall Street by the Richard Henry Boyd Rev. Dr. R. H. Boyd , then known as the cowboy preacher and later to become the founder of the influential National Baptist Publishing Board now R. H. Boyd Publishing Company in Nashville, Tennessee . The church moved to its current location at 805 S. Dorrance Street in Palestine in 1911.     Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1886 and was the first black Baptist church organized in Winter Park, Florida , United States. Originally, the church began at the home of Reverend Charles and Mrs. Missouri Ambrose on Pennsylvania Avenue in the town s predominantly African American Westside. The church presented the community with a safe place to form close friendships, and offered a number of wholesome activities for children and adults. Clyde W. Hall, a member of the church, recalls that the church also provided a place where African Americans could dress in their best attire on Sundays and enjoy equality without encountering the racial deprivations of everyday living in the South at that time. ref name Hall Hall, Clyde W. 2005. Reverend Smith continued to serve Mount Moriah until 1911. History From the time of its founding in 1886 until 1935, membership in Mt. Moriah grew. Soon the Ambroses home could no longer accommodate the number of people attending the church.
