Banlieue Rouge was a punk rock punk band from Montreal , Quebec active through the early to mid 1990s. They disbanded in 1999. Banlieue Rouge was formed in 1989 in Longueuil , a Montreal suburb. Heavily influenced by French punk rock bands such as B rurier Noir , they started with a drum machine , which was eventually replaced by Jeff on drums. Their lyrics being written in French, worldwide success was unlikely to ever be reached. However, they did manage to gain considerable popularity in France and Quebec along with the release of their third studio album Engrenages , in 1993. In 1999, after four full length albums plus one live and one best of and ten years of touring in America and Europe, the band finally broke up. Xavier went on to form Corrigan Fest band Corrigan Fest , later joined by Sylvain. They play traditional Celtic music mixed with punk rock punk . Safwan went on to form Akuma band Akuma , an angrier, louder hardcore punk band with bilingual French language French English language English lyrics. Banlieue Rouge translates as Red Suburb . On their debut album, En Attendant Demain Intro, http www.banlieuerouge.propagande.org paroles demain.html psaumerouge Psaume Rouge , it is explained that this refers to their status as a suburb of the megacity of pop music, unknown to the masses. As for the red part of the name, Red is shock, anger, revolt, free youth is red painted, of disobedience and militant alternative red. Compagnie des chemins de fer de Grande Banlieue or CGB , was a railway company in the Eastern suburban region of Paris , France , in the former D partement in France d partement of Seine et Oise . Despite efforts by the company, many of its lines never became profitable. It is the mass use of the automobile that gave the final blow to the CGB, buses took the passengers away from the lines onto irregular and non direct bus lines. The tramway to Les Halles in Paris closed but the rails remained, plans were to run the trains from Pontoise via Poissy to Paris but residents close to Place de l toile were against it, complaining about the noise of trains at night. Trains ran until 1933. Le tacot Pontoise Poissy Image Pont de la Rue de la Vall e Jouy le Moutier 03 03 06.jpg 250px thumb right The light railway s bridge in Jouy le Moutier . In 1912 was built a RailGauge sg railway line from Gare de Pontoise Pontoise to Gare de Poissy Poissy . This line linked all the towns and villages along the Oise River River Oise to Andr sy and Poissy. The Chemins de fer du D partement de Seine et Oise wished to link the lines from Paris with a circular line following the river, for technical and economic reasons, the line was built following the meander ing river to prevent the building of tunnels and large viaducts. The line was always regarded as a tram way as some portions of the line ran on roads. The journey from Pontoise to Poissy took 1 hour and 20 minutes. Passenger traffic was never the line s forte so the company tried to generate freight traffic to Paris. Vegetable farmers mara chers transported their stock to Les Halles in Paris by connecting services. Car and lorry transported killed the non profitable line and it closed during 1929. Faubourg IPA fr fo.bu pron is an ancient French language French term approximating suburb now generally termed banlieue . The earliest form is Forsbourg , derived from Latin foris , out of , and Vulgar Latin originally Germanic burgum , town or fortress . Traditionally, this name was given to an agglomeration forming around a throughway leading outwards from a city gate, and usually took the name of the same thoroughfare within the city. As cities were often located atop hills for defensive purposes , their outlying communities were frequently lower down. Many faubourgs were located below their towns, and the term suburbs is derived from this tendency sub below urbs city . Faubourgs are often considered the predecessor of European suburbs, from which they evolved generally in the 1950s and 60s. Although early suburbs still conserved some characteristics related to faubourgs such as the back alleys with doors, little break margins for houses, etc. , later suburbs underwent major changes in their construction, primarily in terms of residential density. Beside many French cities, the places faubourgs can still be found outside Europe include the province of Quebec , in Canada and the city of New Orleans, Louisiana . The cities of Quebec and Montreal contain examples, although Montreal has far greater divergences in terms of banlieue , which lead to similarities of many Ontario Ontarian and United States America n suburbs. Paris Faubourgs were prominent in Paris during the first industrialization efforts of the early 19th century. The southern part of the Seine was an early expansion out of the city when the fortifications were demolished and relied heavily on horse trams. The Haussmannian Paris erased many traces of ancient faubourgs and the term banlieue was then coined. Many Parisian streets have retained their ancient denomination in spite of city growth today it is still possible to discern pre 1860 delimitations in Paris by marking the point where a thoroughfare ... more details
