The Bank of Australia robbery was the first bankrobbery in Australia. On 14 September 1828 a gang of five robbers William Blackstone bank robber , George Farrell bank robber , James Dingle , John Wilford alias Creighton and Valentine Rourke tunnelled through a sewage drain into the vault of the Bank of Australia and stole some 14,000 in promissory notes and coins. The crime was discovered the following day. Although suspicions immediately fell on Blackstone, Farrell and Dingle, they escaped an indictment until Blackstone turned informer two years later. By then Creighton was dead and Rourke had left the country. Only Dingle and Farrell faced the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 10 June 1831. Both were found guilty but escaped the gallows because of convict attaint that is, legal concerns as to whether Blackstone s evidence was admissible because of a previous death sentence. ref Baxter, Carol Breaking the Bank An Extraordinary Colonial Robbery , Allen & Unwin, Crows Nest, 2008 ref References reflist Category Bank robberies Category 1828 in Australia Category 1828 crimes DEFAULTSORT Bank Of Australia Robbery ... more details

The French version, made by Jose Giovanni , Les Egouts du Paradis Sewers of Paradise kept the hero s real name but is rather listless. The hero becomes a nice guy, some kind of Arsene Lupin, who visits the old ladies in the hospital. The English version, which features a better lead Ian McShane billed as Brain and a more honest approach. The characters are fascists anti communist and their paramilitary activities are not passed over in silence in the French attempt, all they show is weapons in the thieves den in the country. His accomplices were James Dinsio, Harry Barber, Ronald Barber, Phil Christopher, Charles Mulligan, and Charles Brockles. All were from Youngstown, Ohio . The total stolen was an estimated 30 million Citation needed date January 2011 , a world record at the time. While the robbery itself was executed perfectly, the thieves made the mistake of perpetrating a similar crime back in Ohio a few months later. The FBI linked the two heists, and their investigation of transportation records revealed that the entire gang had travelled to California on a single flight. They also learned of the townhouse used as an HQ, which had been rented by one of the gang members. A search initially found nothing, until the dishwasher was checked. The robbers had forgotten to wash their dishes before returning to Ohio, and the recovered fingerprint s permitted federal arrest warrants to be made, leading to the arrest and conviction of all the burglars, along with the recovery of most of the loot. The Linwood bankrobbery was a bankrobbery which took place in Glasgow on 30 December 1969. Two police officers were shot dead and a third seriously injured. The gang of three robbers robbed the Clydesdale Bank in Linwood . The leader was Howard Wilson, himself a former police officer. Shortly after a police officer, Inspector Andrew Hyslop, spotted them in Allison Street in Glasgow, where he thought they were acting a bit suspiciously. When a group of officers investigated Wilson pulled out a gun and shot three of them. He then fired a shot into two of them as they were lying injured on the floor, and was about to shoot a third when he was rugby tackled by another officer. One of the wounded officers died at the scene, another died in hospital a few days later, and the third, Inspector Hyslop, was put in a wheelchair for life. Wilson eventually pleaded guilty to two charges of murder, the first time anyone had pleaded guilty to a double murder charge in Scotland . Two officers involved in capturing him were awarded the George Cross . It is generally accepted that the same gang had carried out the Williamwood bankrobbery a few months earlier, along with a fourth man. The subsequent whereabouts of the fourth man are unknown, there is a dubious rumor that he is buried in the pillars of the Kingston Bridge, Glasgow Kingston Bridge . Wilson, whose crime occurred two weeks after the death penalty was abolished, was released after 33 years. He wrote a novel Angels of Death .
