Bandwagonesque became famous by beating Nirvana band Nirvana s landmark album Nevermind to be voted album of the year for 1991 by United States US rock magazine Spin magazine Spin . It is also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die . It also gave the band substantial U.S. success when the single Star Sign reached 4 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, becoming their biggest hit in that country. What You Do To Me and The Concept were also Top 20 hits on that chart. The cover is designed by Sharon Fitzgerald. However the group have denied this, claiming that the shambolic, spontaneous nature of the contents was a direct influence of producer Don Fleming musician Don Fleming , whose music was often improvised. In a 2006 interview, Norman Blake and Brendan O Hare confirmed that the album had been recorded immediately after completing Bandwagonesque using pre booked studio time that became available when the aforementioned album was finished sooner than anticipated. Career He joined Teenage Fanclub http www.teenagefanclub.com in 1990, in time to play on about half of their debut album , A Catholic Education . He split from the group after completing the tour for the Thirteen album Thirteen album and joined Telstar Ponies , although he left during the recording of their second album. He was a member of Mogwai for approximately a year. He was described by the NME as Teenage Fanclub s Monkey Without Portfolio . This prompted the track With Portfolio on Mogwai s debut album, Young Team . O Hare was allegedly kicked out of Mogwai for talking during a performance by Arab Strap band Arab Strap leading to a fight with other members of the band. Citation needed date February 2007 Despite this, there appears to have been no hard feelings between O Hare and Arab Strap as O Hare later featured on their double A side and B side A side 1998 release, Here We Go Trippy , contributing to the twelve minute song, Trippy . In addition to his work with Macrocosmica and as Fiend, he ran the God Bless record label issuing the sole album by Thurston Moore s Foot project and was part of the electro based band, Liminal. He is currently in charge of bookings and sound engineering at the Glasgow venue The 13th Note.     Don t Look Back is a yearly series of concerts in which London based promoters All Tomorrow s Parties music festival All Tomorrow s Parties ask artists and bands to play one of their seminal albums live in its entirety. The season started in London in 2005, and has since spread its wings further each year, appearing from 2006 onwards in America and Europe ATP has hosted stages of Don t Look Back performances at Barcelona s Primavera Sound festival and the Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park, Chicago , and in 2008 onwards in Australia.
