Yin and yang DEFAULTSORT Balance Metaphysics Category Concepts in metaphysics philo stub ...Unreferenced date October 2007 Original research date June 2008 In the metaphysics metaphysical or conceptual sense, balance is used to mean a point between two opposite forces that is desirable over purely one state or the other, such as a balance between the metaphysical Law and wikt chaos Chaos &mdash law by itself being overly controlling, chaos being overly unmanageable, balance being the point that minimizes the negatives of both. More recently, the term balance has come to refer to a balance of power between multiple opposing forces. Lack of balance of power is generally considered to cause aggression by stronger forces towards weaker forces less capable of defending themselves. In the real world, unbalanced stronger forces tend to portray themselves as balanced, and use media controls to downplay this, as well as prevent weaker forces from coming together to achieve a new balance of power. In constructed worlds, such as in video gaming, where nearly all powerful corporate interests strive to maintain a balance of power among players, players tend to be extremely vocal about what they see as unbalanced mechanics, providing the unbalance negatively affects them. And though the strong and unbalanced, or overpowered players commonly are vigorous in denial of any lack of balance, the comparative media equality among all player brings change quickly, to further a sense of balance. Artistic balance The twentieth century saw the development of both law and chaos in art and art music to the point that the end product became unintelligible at an instinctive emotional level. Many ... in a fundamental acceptance of balance as the controlling force in art. In time, we may even come to accept balance between structural and emotional as the essence of beauty. 1. Introduction to Metaphysics

An Introduction to Metaphysics Introduction la M taphysique is a 1903 essay by Henri Bergson that explores the concept of reality. For Bergson, reality occurs not in a series of discrete states but as a process similar to that described by process philosophy or the Greek philosopher Heraclitus . Reality is fluid and cannot be completely understood through reduction philosophy reduction istic analysis, which he said implies that we go around an object , gaining knowledge from various perspectives which are relative. Instead, reality can be grasped absolutely only through intuition, which Bergson expressed as entering into the object. Publication data Henri Bergson. An Introduction to Metaphysics 1903 . 1. Metaphysics of presence

unreferenced date February 2009 The concept of the metaphysics of presence is an important consideration within the area of deconstruction . The deconstructive interpretation holds that the entire history of philosophy history of Western philosophy and its language and traditions has emphasized the desire for immediate access to meaning, and thus built a metaphysics or ontotheology around the privileging of presence over absence. Deconstructive thinkers, like Jacques Derrida , describe their task as the questioning or deconstruction of this metaphysical tendency in philosophy. This argument is largely based on the earlier work of Martin Heidegger , who in Being and Time claimed the parasitic nature of the theoretical attitude of pure presence upon a more originary involvement with the world in concepts such as the ready to hand and being with . Friedrich Nietzsche is a more distant, but clear, influence as well. The presence to which Heidegger refers is both a presence as in a now and also a presence as in an eternal, always present, as one might associate with God or the eternal Physical law laws of science . This hypostatized underlying belief in presence is undermined by novel Phenomenology philosophy phenomenological ideas such that presence itself does not subsist, but comes about primordially through the action of our futural projection, our realization of finitude and the reception or rejection of the traditions of our time. philo stub Category Deconstruction pt Metaf sica da presen a tr Bulunu metafizi i ...   more details

The Metaphysics of Morals Die Metaphysik der Sitten , 1797 is a major work of moral and political philosophy by Immanuel Kant . It was not as well known or as widely read as his earlier works, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals and the Critique of Practical Reason , but it experienced a renaissance in the English speaking world through the pioneering work of Mary J. Gregor in her Laws of Freedom of 1963. The work is divided into two main parts. The first part, Science of Right, is grounded in republicanism republican interpretation of origins of political community as Civil society Pre modern history civil society and establishment of positive law . The second part, Science of Virtue touches issues of moral development of human entity. The alternative translation Doctrine of Right and Doctrine of Virtue is also used. 1. Discourse on Metaphysics

The Discourse on Metaphysics Discours de m taphysique , 1686 is a short 60 pages in translation treatise by Gottfried Leibniz in which he develops a philosophy concerning physical substance, motion and resistance of bodies, and God s role within the universe. It is one of the few texts presenting in a consistent form the earlier philosophy of Leibniz. The Discourse is closely connected to the epistolary discussion which he carried with Antoine Arnauld . ref Sleigh R., Leibniz and Arnauld , New haven Yale, 1990. ref However Leibniz refrained from sending the full text and it remained unpublished until the mid 19th century. ref The first edition in 1846 by Pertz was from a copy but later the original manuscript was found and Henri Lestrienne published it in 1907 now it is printed in the Akademie Ausgabe , Reihe VI, Vierter Band, S.1529 ref Arnauld received only an abridged version in 37 points which resumed whole paragraphs and steered their discussion. The metaphysical considerations proceed from God to the substantial world and back to the spiritual realm. Dynamism describes that which exists as simple wiktionary element elements , or for Leibniz, monad s, and groups of elements which have only the essence of force s. It was developed as a reaction against the passive view of matter in mechanism philosophy philosophical mechanism . Interaction between elements takes place without contact, through modes or even harmonics of motion, yielding all phenomena in the Universe . Various treatments of Dynamism can be found in the works of Baruch Spinoza and Henri Bergson , and also, long before them, Parmenides , Atomism the Atomists , and Plotinus . In more contemporary works, elements of Dynamism also developed into process philosophy , via Alfred North Whitehead and others, as well as systems theory via Ludwig von Bertalanffy and William Ross Ashby . Immanuel Kant was another philosopher who helped the development of the theory of dynamism. 1. Extension (metaphysics)

In metaphysics , extension is, roughly speaking, the property of taking up space . Ren Descartes defines extension as the property of existing in more than one dimension. For Descartes, the primary characteristic of matter is extension, just as the primary characteristic of mind is consciousness . This can be contrasted with current conceptions in quantum physics, where the Planck length , an almost unimaginably tiny quantity, represents reaching that distance scale where, it has been theorized, all measurement seemingly breaks down to that which can be subsumed at this scale, as distance only, or extension. John Locke , in An Essay Concerning Human Understanding , defined extension as only the Space that lies between the Extremities of those solid coherent Parts of a body. ref cite book title An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, Volume 1 last Locke first John authorlink John Locke year 1816 publisher B.
