Originally built by a local Brooklyn company as the Piccadilly, it was sold prior to opening to Loews Cineplex Entertainment Loews Theaters , which changed the name to Avalon. Designed by Samuel Cohen, the auditoriums seated 2,119 and featured a Robert Morton Organ Company Robert Morton theatre pipe organ. Within a year of opening, it became part of the Century Theatres chain. The theater closed in 1982 and the building now houses a Rite Aid Rite Aid pharmacy , and offices on the upper floors. The building still functions as a movie theater, with its original projectors, and also is home to local live theater groups.
