File AEIreader.jpg thumb 250px Trackside AEI reader History Predecessor systems In the late 1960s, railroads in North America began searching for a system that would allow them to automatically identify rail cars and other rolling stock. Through the efforts of the Association of American Railroads AAR , a number of companies developed Automatic Car Identification ACI systems. The AAR selected four systems for extensive field tests. General Electric developed an RFID system, ABEX a microwave system, Wabco a black and white barcode system, and General Telephone and Electronics GTE a color barcode system called KarTrak. 1. Automatic Transmitter Identification System

about the satellite TV protocol maritime vessel system Automatic Identification System unreferenced date July 2008 The Automatic Transmitter Identification System ATIS is a communications protocol used for the station identification of television channel s carried on satellite TV . ATIS is only required for analog TV transmission and only via satellites or earth station s under United States jurisdiction. It is continuously repeated whilst an earth station is using a transponder on a satellite. The Federal Communications Commission FCC rules for ATIS are set forth in CFR Title 47 47 Code of Federal Regulations CFR 25.281. ATIS is a Morse code transmission sent on a subcarrier of 7.1  MHz and must activate automatically any time the station is transmitting. The center frequency must be no more than 25  kHz from this nominal value and the frequency deviation must be no more than 25  kHz peak when being modulation modulated . Injection must be at a minimum of 26 decibel dB referenced to the unmodulated carrier . The pure tone tone used to modulate the subcarrier is nominally 1200  Hz, but may vary by as much as 800  Hz 400 to 2000  Hz . The ATIS message is sent at a transmission rate of 15 to 25 words per minute and must not exceed 30 seconds in its entire length. The message includes the FCC assigned callsign of the earth station, its telephone number , a ten digit random number which acts as its serial number , and sometimes other information which is voluntary. The telephone number must immediately connect to personnel who can resolve radio interference and other frequency coordination issues. The serial number cannot be easily changed. ATIS encoders must be included in the uplink airchain of all transmitters as of March 1, 1991 in a method that cannot easily be defeated . Other subcarriers piggybacked on the video carrier are also included in transmissions ... on one transponder. These signals carry their station ID as data instead. 1. Automatic data processing system

orphan date April 2010 According to the US Department of Defense, an automatic data processing ADP system is any organized assembly of resources and methods used to collect, process, and distribute messages largely by automatic means. ref DOD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms, Joint Publication 1 02, 19 August 2009 http www.dtic.mil doctrine dod dictionary index.html ref Automatic data processing equipment ADPE is considered the hardware component s of an ADP system. Some agencies including NASA use the term automated data processing system . It is common to refer to ADP systems as anything from a desktop computer or laptop, to a complex network of computer systems in multiple locations. In short, ADP systems perform automatic data processing . History Data Processing has been around for centuries, ever since mankind had a need to process and share information. All the resources and methods available at the time were used. This was, of course, a manual method with a human being making the decisions on how the information a form, a telegraph, etc. was to flow through the established procedure. With the invention of ENIAC , and later UNIVAC I UNIVAC in 1951, data processing as an automatic form emerged. The locations of these computers became known as data processing centers , with the hardware easily being called data processing equipment . The US military adopted the term automatic data processing systems to describe the full array of resources to include the ADPE used to remove the human from the decision. Although information system is used more favorably today, the term ADP system is still found in current documents and manuals. Image USID P Tag On Wrist With Barcode.jpg thumb 200px USID Patient tag. br Foto Sonitor Technologies Ultrasound Identification is a Real Time Locating System RTLS or Indoor Positioning System IPS technology used to automatically determine and identify the location of objects with room accuracy. The approach is using simple, inexpensive nodes badges tags attached to the surface of persons, objects and devices, which then transmit an ultrasound signal to communicate their locations to microphone sensors. Because ultrasound signal wavelength s have short reach, they are confined to lesser distant locations than with wireless transmissions with higher susceptibility to multiple reflection, multipath and through the wall multiple room responses. Hence ultrasound based RTLS is considered a more robust alternative to passive Radio frequency identification pRFID and even to active Radio frequency identification aRFID in complex indoor environments such as hospitals , where radio waves get multiply transmitted and reflected, thereby compromising the positioning accuracy.
