Gnaeus Gellius 2nd century BC was the author of a history of Rome from the earliest epoch, extending, as we gather from Censorinus , down to the year 145 BC at least. We know that the Rape of the Sabines was described in the second book the reign of Titus Tatius in the third the death of Lucius Postumius Albinus consul 234 BC Postumius during the second Punic war , and the purpose to which his skull was applied by the Boii , ref Livy , xxiii. 24 ref in the thirty third and we find a quotation in Choricius of Gaza Choricius from the ninety seventh, if we can trust the number. Hence it is manifest that a considerable space was devoted to the legends connected with the origin of Rome and that if these books were in general equal in length to the similar divisions in Livy , the compilation of Gellius must have been exceedingly voluminous, and the details more ample than those contained in Livy, by whom, as well as by Plutarch , he seems to have been altogether neglected, although occasionally cited by Dionysius of Halicarnassus Dionysius . Aulus Pompeius was the name of two Romans from the gen s Pompeius , who were of plebs status. They lived during the Roman Republic . Brother to Quintus Pompeius Rufus, Consul 88 BC Aulus Pompeius flourished 2nd century BC was the son Quintus Pompeius tribune of the plebs in 132  BC, who was an opponent to politician Tiberius Gracchus and was the younger brother to the above named. His wife s name is not known they had a son Quintus Pompeius Bithynicus. According to Greek Historian Diodorus Siculus , Aulus Pomeius died in 102  BC, apparently as a result of a curse placed upon him by Battaces, a Phrygia Phrygian Priest. Diodorus recounts that Battaces was visiting Rome as a part of an embassage from the temple of The Great Mother of the Gods in Pessinus . Aulus Pompeius, as Tribune, forbade Battaces from wearing a golden crown which formed part of his priestly regalia. This provoked a public argument between Battaces & Pompeius on the Forum rostra, during which Battaces cursed Pompeius for insulting The Great Goddess. Pompeius was immediately struck with a burning fever, after which he lost his voice and was seized with quinsy , dying on the third day. The superstitious people of Rome viewed his death as the result of Battace s curse and thereafter allowed Battaces to wear his full regalia and treated him with respect and honour. ref Diodorus Siculus Library of History 36.13 1 3 ref Son of Quintus Pompeius Bithynicus Aulus Pompeius Bithynicus flourished 1st century BC was the son to Senator Cicero s friend Quintus Pompeius Bithynicus by an unnamed woman.
