Greeves was an Victorian Legislative Council MLC in Victoria Australia Victoria from 1853 to 1856 and an Victorian Legislative Assembly MLA from 1856 to 1861 and from 1864 to 1865. He died in Melbourne on 23 May 1874 at the age of 67 and is buried in Melbourne General Cemetery . He was a multi talented civil servant in the service of the Straits Settlements . He was an engineer, superintendent of convicts, manager of public works and a member of the commission for the pacification of Larut following the signing of a peace treaty, in 1874. McNair s childhood was filled with the study of geology. Over time he amassed a large collection of metals. He later had this transported to Madras where he was to begin his first job. In 1846, at the age of 17, McNair left England to take up employment with the British East India Company , E. I. C. at Madras , India . McNair studied and was fluent in Hindustani language Hindustani , a skill that would stand him in good stead. From Madras , McNair was transferred to Malacca part of Straits Settlements in 1853 to be responsible for the Madras Native Artillery reporting to J. B. Westerhout , then the advisor to the government of the Straits Settlements . He was then posted to Singapore , where he took up an appointment as private secretary and aide de camp to the Governor of Straits Settlements . He was educated at Dickinson College , Carlisle, Pennsylvania, entered the ministry, emancipated his slaves, and from 1826 till 1852 was pastor of Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church in Kingsport , Tennessee, where he had moved in 1818. In 1828 he labored as an evangelist in Kentucky and Ohio. At the division of the Presbyterian general assembly in 1837 8 he adhered to the New School branch, and in 1855 he became pastor of the 1st Presbyterian church in Huntsville, Alabama, holding this charge until 1875 and continuing pastor emeritus until his death. With James Gallaher and David Nelson he edited a monthly publication entitled The Calvinistic Magazine, founded in 1826, and he published a book entitled Slavery as ordained of God Philadelphia, 1857 . At the age of eighteen, he became lieutenant of the guard in the service of the landgrave of Hesse Cassel . He saw service in Moravia and Bohemia , and in 1776 received the court appointment of gentleman of the chamber. He went to the Thirteen Colonies about the close of 1780 as captain of one of the Hessian regiments in the British service.     orphan date June 2007 Frederick Augustus Hely 1794 &ndash 8 September 1836 , a public servant and settler of colonial Australia , was born in County Tyrone, Ireland . He was the son of Colonel Forbes Francis Hely. Place in New South Wales At eighteen years of age, in the year 1812, he married Georgina Lindsay Bucknell. While there is no evidence of the actual time when Hely came to Australia, it is known that he was given the post of principal superintendent of the convicts in New South Wales sometime in early 1823, but it was later in the year that he arrived in Sydney , with his wife and children, to actually take up the post a post he would hold throughout the entirety of the rest of his life . Hely held several other additional places of public and social influence. He became a justice of the peace in 1825 and became president of the Board of Magistrates in 1826. The year following, he became acting superintendent of police, and, in 1831, he was appointed a member of the Assignment Board. Later, in 1832, Hely applied for an appointment as stipendiary magistrate at Brisbane Water , but, to induce him to stay as superintendent of convicts an office in which he had been quite successful in the past , he was offered a salary increase of 100 from the 200 he was already earning.
