AsefBayat Ph.D. University of Kent 1984 is Professor of Sociology and Middle Eastern studies at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He was Professor of Sociology and Middle Eastern studies and held the Chair of Society and Culture of the Modern Middle East at Leiden University , The Netherlands. He was the Academic Director of the International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World ISIM and ISIM Chair of Islam and the Modern World at Leiden University from 2003 until 2009. He has published widely on issues of political sociology, social movements , urban space and politics , the everyday of politics and religiosity, contemporary Islam , and the Muslim Middle East . Bayat is a district of orum Province in the Black Sea Region, Turkey Black Sea region of Turkey . It is located at 83 km from the city of orum , near the town of skilip . It covers an area of 770 km , and the population 2010 is 23,323 of which 8,479 live in the town of Bayat. It has an elevation of 625 m. The mayor is Ekrem nl Justice and Development Party Turkey AKP . Geography Bayat is located at high altitude above the Black Sea coast, but has the character of a central Anatolia n district. The town stands in a valley of the River Bayat, a tributary of the K z l rmak that runs down from the surrounding mountains including the 2013 m Mount bek. In the mountain villages in the north of the district people live on forestry and herding livestock, there are also a number of coal mines. Many families have migrated to larger cities in search of jobs, or go as seasonal labour in the construction industry. There is better farmland in the valley floor along with flour and feed mills. The town of Bayat provides schools, health care and other basic amenities to the villages in the district.
