Jews and Judaism sidebar A lang he Latn get lang he , plural lang he Latn gittin lang he is a divorce document, which according to Halacha Jewish Law , must be presented by a husband to his wife to effect their divorce. The essential text of the lang he Latn get is quite short You are hereby permitted to all men, i.e., the wife is no longer a married woman, and the laws of adultery no longer apply. The lang he Latn get also returns to the wife the legal rights which a husband holds in regard to his wife in a Jewish view of marriage Jewish marriage . Etymology The biblical term for the divorce document, described in bibleverse Deuteronomy 24 HE , is Sefer Keritut , lang he . The origin of the word lang he Latn get is unclear. According to Joshua Boaz ben Simon Baruch Shiltei Giborim mentioned in the talmud ic dictionary Aruch HaShalem S.V. Get , it refers to the stone agate which purportedly has some form of anti magnetic property symbolizing the divorce. The Gaon of Vilna has mentioned that the Hebrew letters of Gimel and Tet of the word lang he Latn get are the only letters of the Hebrew alphabet that cannot make a word together, again symbolizing the divorce. Another possible explanation is that of Rabbi Baruch Epstein who states that it comes from the Latin word gestus action, gesture which refers to any legal document. In fact in the Mishna , lang he Latn get can refer to any legal document although it refers primarily to a divorce document. Tosefet Beracha to Ki Tisa Rabbi Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg posits that after the Bar Kochba revolt the Roman Empire Romans decreed that all documents be processed in a Roman court in order to weaken Jewish nationalism . The term get may have entered the vernacular language during this time. ref Seridei Eish 3 134 ref Requirements Halakha requires specific formalities for a lang he Latn get to be considered valid. Image Various grains.jpg thumb 250px right Grain products Pas Yisroel or Pat Yisrael lit Bread of an Israelite, Hebrew he he products are grain products that were cooked or baked with the participation of an observant Jew. This must be, at minimum, the ignition of the flame used to prepare, cook, or bake the grain product. In classical Rabbinic Judaism, this requirement is considered restricted to the five classical grains of Judaism wheat , barley , oats , spelt , and rye . In the modern food production industry, commercial bakeries may accomplish a status of Pas Yisroel by the use of something called the Shain system , named for the inventor, Rabbi Yehuda Shain whereby an entire apparatus can be ignited remotely by an observant Jew. It is customary that extra care is taken to uphold this observance during the first ten days of the month of Tishrei , between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur . The qualification for one to be considered an observant Jew &ndash and therefore able to uphold the observance of Pas Yisroel &ndash is defined as one who is Shomer Shabbat . This is regardless of Jewish denominations affiliation . As an example of this encompassing multiple denominations, let s use a hypothetical scenario of a Reform Judaism Reform Jew who is a baker, and an Orthodox Judaism Orthodox Jew who wants to buy the baked goods produced by the baker if the baker is Who is a Jew considered Jewish , from the Orthodox Jew s perspective, considered Shomer Shabbat by the tenets of the Orthodox Jew, then the grain product could still receive a distinction of Pas Yisroel by the Orthodox Jew s preferred Hekhsher . Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Chayei Adam The Life of Man is a work of Halakha Jewish law by Rabbi Avraham Danzig 1748 1820 , dealing with the laws discussed in the Orach Chayim section of the Shulchan Aruch . It is divided into 224 sections 69 dealing with daily conduct and prayer, and 155 with Shabbat Shabbos Sabbath and Jewish Holidays Yom Tov holidays . Chayei Adam was intended primarily for the cultured layman , as opposed to rabbinic scholars, and the work is thus presented in a readily accessible form. In many cities, societies were formed for the purpose of studying Chayei Adam. In this work, Rabbi Danzig collected and critically sifted the Acharonim Acharonic material in the field of the Halakha written in the more than two and a half centuries since the appearance of the Shulchan Aruch . A parallel work Nishmas Adam , published together with Chayei Adam, discusses the halachic issues in greater depth. The two are usually printed together. The scholarship of the work is evidenced by the fact that Rabbi Chaim Volozhin , known for his opposition to digests of halacha , granted the work his approbation on condition that each section be cross referenced to the Shulkhan Arukh to allow for further study . Translation I offer thanks before you, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me Your faithfulness is great. Tradition Book of Lamentations Lamentations states that The Names of God in Judaism Lord s mercies are not consumed, surely His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning great is Your faithfulness bibleverse Lam. 3 22&ndash 23. HE . From this, the Shulchan Aruch deduces that every morning, God renews every person as a new Creator deity creation . Ch. 1, 2. For this, it is taught that one should thank God, and that is the purpose of the Modeh Ani . As the Modeh Ani does not include any of the names of God, observant Jews may recite it before washing their hands. According to the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch , one should pause slightly between the words compassion and abundant is Your faithfulness. The tradition to recite Modeh Ani upon waking grew up after the Talmud . In Talmudic times, upon waking, Jews traditionally said the prayer Elohai Neshamah My God, the soul that You have placed in me is pure Berakhot 60b. . This prayer has been moved to the Jewish services morning prayers . Because of its simplicity, Modeh Ani has become a favorite prayer for small children.
