In 1302, with his father in prison and Flanders under French occupation, he was sent by his elder brother John I, Marquis of Namur , to take command of the rebellion there. He led the troops from western Flanders at the Battle of the Golden Spurs , and received great acclamation for the victory there. He took the title of Count of Zeeland and invaded Zeeland but the French raised new armies, and he was beaten at the naval Battle of Zierikzee and became a captive of the William III, Count of Hainaut count of Holland . Abandoning his designs on Zeeland, he went on campaign in Italy with his cousin Henry VII, Holy Roman Emperor . There he married Margaret of Lorraine, daughter of Theobald II, Duke of Lorraine . William II, marquis of Namur 22 January 1355 10 January 1418 inherited the marquis of Namur marquisate of Namur from his father William I, Marquis of Namur William I in 1391 and held it until his own death. His mother was Catherine of Savoy 1388 , daughter of Louis II of Savoy , baron of Vaud, and Isabella of Ch lon. His rule as marquis was a peaceful one, in which he devoted himself to encouraging commerce, industry and the building of fortifications. John II of Namur , 1311 &ndash April 2, 1335 , was Marquis of Namur between 1330 and 1335. He was the eldest son of John I, Marquis of Namur , and Mary of Artois. He succeeded his father on January 26 1330. He joined an alliance against John III, Duke of Brabant , but by the intervention of King Philip VI of France , a conflict was averted. He died unmarried, but had an illegitimate son Philip, who was killed in 1380 defending Dendermonde . br He was succeeded by his brother Guy II, Marquis of Namur Guy .
