Avraham Arnon Hebrew born 1887, died 24 May 1960 was an Israeli Jews Israeli educator and a recipient of the Israel Prize . Biography Arnon was born in 1887 in Cherykaw Raion Cherykaw in the Russian Empire now in Belarus . His family later moved to the city of Polotsk , where he received his primary education. In 1909, he was accepted by the High School for Trade and Economics in Kiev . After graduating in 1914, he travelled to the United States and the United Kingdom to continue his Pedagogy pedagogal studies. Arnon then emigrated to British Mandate of Palestine Mandate Palestine , becoming one of the first academic teachers in the country. For 17 years he taught geography and mathematics at schools in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem , and was headmaster of L mel School in Jerusalem from 1920 to 1930. During this period, he also became active in the Teachers Union and was elected chairman of its central committee. He was appointed as a school inspector in 1930. Following the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, he was appointed head inspector of general stream schools. Baruch Arnon born 8 July 1940 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia is a classical pianist and renowned music teacher. He is currently a professor at the Juilliard School in New York and has previously taught music at the Israel Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and Musica de Camera. Education He began his music studies at an early age and studied piano with Ilona Vincze Kraus at Israel Academy of Music. By 1959 he was taking master classes under Edward Steuermann. In 1962 he was studying at the Juilliard School with Irwin Freundlich and earned his B.M. Studying under Bernard Wagenaar and Jacob Druckman, he earned his M.S. in 1965. Professional information Between 1960 and 1962 he taught piano at the Israel Academy of Music . In 1972 he became the artistic director of the Musica da Camera, a position he held until 1980. In 1973, he was awarded the National Medal of Science for his fundamental research into the mechanism of green plant utilization of light to produce chemical energy and oxygen and for contributions to our understanding of plant nutrition. Arnon was born on November 14, 1910, in Warsaw . Summers spent on the family s farm helped foster Arnon s interest in agriculture. His father had lost the family s food wholesale business after World War I and Arnon s readings of the works of Jack London led him to save up his money to head to California .
