Arnold M. Picker 29 September 1913 11 October 1989 was a United States film industry executive, mayor of Golden Beach, Florida and the number one enemy on Richard Nixon s list of targets. Picker began his career by following in his father s footsteps. In 1935 he started with Columbia Pictures , where his father had been an executive, and worked his way up the company s ladder to become head of international distribution. He then joined United Artists where in the 1960s he was made an executive vice president. His motion picture career ended and political career began when President Lyndon B. Johnson named him to the International Commission on Education and Cultural Affairs. In 1972, Picker served as the finance chairman of Senator Edmund S. Muskie s Presidential campaign and in 1976 he worked as a top fundraiser for Henry M. Jackson s campaign. Picker was so effective as a liberal advocate that he was singled out by President Richard M. Nixon s reelection strategists as the top target of a list of 20 people on Nixon s Enemies List . This list came to light during the Watergate scandal. Mr. Picker was elected mayor of Golden Beach in 1979. Although his career in the motion picture industry ended in the 1960s, Picker continued to be an active force in the field. He helped establish the Washington based American Film Institute . He later served as chairman of the board of the National Center for Jewish Film. The center at Brandeis University is dedicated to restoring Yiddish film classics. He also helped found the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center based at Florida International University. Harvey Picker December 8, 1915 &ndash March 22, 2008 was an American businessman, educator , inventor , and philanthropist . He was the founder, along with his wife, Jean, of the Boston based Picker Institute, whose goal is to promote patient centered healthcare. Picker s father, James, founded Picker X ray acquired by General Electric Co. Ltd. of England in 1981, which produced air dropped X ray labs for the Army in World War II and the Korean War. The younger Harvey led the company into such pioneering fields as cobalt treatment for cancer and ultrasound and nuclear imaging diagnostics. He remained with the company from 1946 1968. At age 50, Picker sold the family business and earned his doctorate. He worked briefly in the diplomatic service, taught political science at Colgate University , then, between 1972 1983, served as dean of Columbia University s School of International and Public Affairs. Dr. and Mrs. Picker believed that the American health care system was technologically and scientifically outstanding, but overall was not sensitive to patients concerns and their comfort. Thus, in 1986, they founded the Picker Institute a not for profit organization dedicated to developing a patient centered approach to healthcare and in 2000 founded the Picker Institute Europe. Jean Picker, who died in 1990, served as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations and was a journalist for Life Magazine . It is usually tractor pulled. A stone picker is similar in function to a rock windrower rock rake a stone picker generally digs to greater depths to remove stones and rocks. Stone pickers are used in farming and landscaping, where stones need to be removed from the soil and ground surface to prevent damage to other farm machinery such as Baler hay balers , combine harvester combines , and mower s , improve the soil for crop production, or improve the appearance of the ground surface in preparation for a lawn or a golf course. Surface stones and large rocks often left from plowing can damage a hay bailer, the header or reciprocating knives on a combine, and blades on a rotary mower . Land with rock instead of fine soil are often less useful for crops. A stone picker has digging teeth, a conveyor system, a sieve or screen, and a stone bin. The digging teeth are at the leading edge of the stone picker and removes soil, which is placed on the conveyor system. If the sieve is not combined with the conveyor system, the conveyor system transports the stones and large rocks to a bin or hopper for periodic dumping. Some stone pickers use a large tractor, generally over 100 horsepower , equipped with hydraulics and power take off driven mechanisms. PTO pump driven equipment can use 60 horsepower tractors.
