He joined the faculty at Chicago and also taught at the University of Pittsburgh and Iowa State University before moving to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He was to begin with a Benedictine monk at St. Blaise s Abbey in the Black Forest and was then, in 1107, appointed prior at G ttweig Abbey . He was entrusted by Ottokar II of Styria with the development of Garsten Abbey , of which he became the first abbot in 1111. In this post he distinguished himself by piety, kindness, devotion to his pastoral duties and organisational talent. Berthold introduced the Hirsau Reforms into Austria . He moved to Berlin in 1920 and collaborated with Lotte Reiniger on her paper silhouette animations The Ornament of the Loving Heart The Battle of Skagerrak The Adventures of Prince Achmed Dr Dolittle In 1930 Bartosch moved to Paris and created the 30 minute film entitled The Idea to which he is most remembered for. It is described as the first serious, poetic, tragic work in animation. The film s characters and backdrops were composed of several layers of different types of paper from semi transparent to thick Paperboard cardboard . Special effects like wiktionary halo halos , smoke and fog were made with Foam lather spread on glass plates and lit from behind. The film was based on a book of woodcut s from Frans Masereel , The idea . The Idea featured a score by composer Arthur Honegger , including an ondes Martenot , which is believed to be the very first use of an electronic instrument in film history. From 1935 to 1939, Bartosch worked on an anti war film, St. Francis or Nightmare and Dreams. When the Nazis invaded Paris, he deposited the film at the Cin math que Fran aise .     Berthold of Chiemsee 1465 in Salzburg , Austria 19 July 1543, in Saalfelden was a German bishop and theological writer. His real name was Berthold P rstinger, frequently called Pirstinger but he is generally known as Berthold of Chiemsee, from his episcopal see , situated on one of the islands of the Bavarian lake of Chiemsee . We have little information regarding his early life. He was licentiate in civil, and doctor in ecclesiastical law, and in 1495 he appears as the Magister Camer of the Archbishop of Salzburg , and in 1508 was appointed Bishop of Chiemsee . During his episcopal career 1508 25 , he resided at Salzburg, in the position of Coadjutor bishop to the archbishop of the latter place. Berthold twice conspicuously used his influence with the Archbishop of Salzburg in behalf of the unfortunate in 1511 in favour of the Salzburg town councillors who had been condemned for high treason, and again in 1524 in the interest of rebellious peasants. He was present at the Provincial Council of Salzburg 1512 , and also took an active part in 1522 in that of M hldorf Bavaria , which was convened to devise means of stemming the tide of Lutheran progress.
