The armstice was followed with the Treaty of Brest Litovsk on March 3, 1918, between the Russian SFSR and the Central Powers , marking Russia s exit from World War I . On February 1917, the Russian Revolution of 1917 Russian Revolution put a stop to all Russian military operations earlier. The Soviet regime that was established on November 7, 1917 was still referred to as the Russian Republic. Later it acquired the official name of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic . Neither the Russian soldiers nor the Russian people wanted to go on with the war anymore. Before the Armistice, the Russian forces began to conduct withdrawals. Armistice was a need for the Russian forces under their declined power. Aftermath Russian forces pull out from Caucasus s conflicts, though some of the residual forces stayed in the region. Ottoman forces could not take advantage of this situation as the Third Army in the region was in poor shape. Also, the depleted Caucasian forces were needed at more dire places and Enver moved the five divisions that were in the region out because of the great pressure from the British in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign and Mesopotamian Campaign . The armistice was signed on November 3, 1918 in the Villa Giusti and was to take effect 24 hours later. Background By the end of October 1918, while its definitive defeat was being perpetrated at the Battle of Vittorio Veneto , the Austro Hungarian Army found itself in such a state that its commanders were forced to seek a ceasefire at any cost. During the Battle of Vittorio Veneto , the troops of Austria Hungary were defeated, ceasing to exist as a combat force and starting a chaotic withdrawal. From 28 October onwards, Austria Hungary sought to negotiate a truce but hesitated to sign the text of armistice. The Italians, in the meantime, advanced reaching Trento , Udine , and landing in Trieste . After the threat to break off the negotiations, on November 3 the Austro Hungarians accepted the peace terms. The cease fire would be started at 3.00 pm of November 4, but due to a unilateral order of the Austro Hungarian high command, the empire s forces stopped fighting on November 3.
