Biography Little is known about Fioravanti s early years. He was born in Bologna around 1415 1420 to a family of architects and hydraulic engineers. He became renowned for the very innovative devices he used for the rebuilding of the towers belonging to the noble families of the city. Between 1458 and 1467 he worked at Florence for Cosimo de Medici the Elder and at Milan , before returning to his native city. Here he created the plans for the Palazzo Bentivoglio , but the edifice was not finished by Giovanni II Bentivoglio until 1484 1494. In 1467 he worked for king Matthias Corvinus of Hungary Matthias Corvinus in Hungary . In 1475 at the invitation of Ivan III of Russia Ivan III he went to Russia, and built the magnificent Assumption Cathedral Uspensky Sobor , also known as Dormition Cathedral in Moscow from 1475 1479, taking inspiration from the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir eponymous cathedral in Vladimir . This is the work for which he is best remembered. According to some accounts, he was thrown into prison by Ivan III when he asked to return to Italy , and died in captivity. Although one of the most important and popular bass voice type basso buffo s of his generation, there is only a relatively small amount of information available about his life. He had a highly fruitful partnership with the Teatro Nuovo in Naples and is best known today for creating roles in the world premieres of numerous operas by Gaetano Donizetti . Biography Fioravanti was the son of opera composer Valentino Fioravanti 1764 1837 and the older brother of opera composer Vincenzo Fioravanti 1799 1877 . His exact year of birth is unknown but it is likely that he was born sometime in the 1790s. Not much is known about his musical training, although he probably received some education from his father.     Giulio Fioravanti October 17, 1923, Ascoli Piceno May 3, 1999, Milan was an Italian opera tic baritone , particularly associated with the Italian repertory. He studied first jurisprudence and work one year as a jurist in his native city before turning to music studies at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, with famed baritone Riccardo Stracciari . He made his stage debut in Turin , as Germont in La traviata , in 1951. He sang throughout Italy and in 1957 made his debut at both the San Carlo in Naples and La Scala in Milan. He established himself in the standard Italian repertory, singing all the great baritone parts from bel canto to verismo . He also took part in several creations of contemporary works such as Rappresentazione e Festa by Gian Francesco Malipiero , Alamistakeo by Giulio Viozzi, Viv by Franco Mannino , Suocera Rapita by Lidia Ivanova, and La regina delle nevi by Giuseppe Zanaboni. From 1991 he dedicated himself to teaching, activity that he carried out with passion until his death in 1991. Fioravanti did not record prolifically commercially. The Palazzo del Podest is a civic building in Bologna , northern Italy . The edifice was built around 1200 as the seat of the local podest , the various functionaries of the commune. It stands on the Piazza Maggiore, near the Palazzo Communale and facing the Basilica of St. Petronio. Proving insufficient for the massive participation of the people in the city s government, it was in 1245 flanked by the Palazzo Re Enzo , over which stands the Torre dell Arengo , whose bell was used to call the people during emergencies. The Palazzo del Podest is a long building, with a large hall on the upper floor. The lower floor is a double open arcade, the so called Voltone del Podest , through which pass two lanes of shops. In 1453 Aristotile Fioravanti replaced the bell and reconstructed the original Gothic fa ade in the Renaissance architecture Renaissance style by order of Giovanni II Bentivoglio . In the Voltone , in 1525, were placed the terracotta statues of the city s protectors, Sts. Petronius, Proculus, Dominic and Francis, all by Alfonso Lombardi . In the 16th 18th centuries the Palazzo was used as theatre. In the 20th century it was frescoed by Adolfo de Carolis .
