They received the answer that by the third fruit the third generation was meant, and that the narrow passage was not the isthmus of Corinth, Greece Corinth , but the straits of Rhium . They accordingly built a fleet at Naupactus , but before they set sail, Aristodemus was struck by lightning or shot by Apollo god Apollo and the fleet destroyed, because one of the Heraclidae had slain an Acarnania n soothsayer. According to the Suda , he wrote treatises on orthography and syntax , and an onomasticon vocabulary , described as a wonderful production . An epitome of the great work of Herodian on general Prosody linguistics prosody in twenty books, wrongly attributed to Arcadius, is probably the work of Theodosius of Alexandria or a grammarian named Aristodemus. This epitome was the work of a forger of the 16th century. King Leonidas I ordered Pantites on an embassy to Thessaly , possibly to recruit allies for the coming battle. However, Pantites failed to return to Thermopylae in time for the battle, arriving after all of his fellow soldiers had been killed. When he returned to Sparta, he was shunned as a trembler and made an outcast. Unable to live with his disgrace, he hanged himself. He had unlawful intercourse with Chilonis , the young wife of Cleonymus of Sparta Cleonymus , uncle of his father Areus. It was this, together with the disappointment of not obtaining the throne, which led Cleonymus to invite Pyrrhus of Epirus Pyrrhus to Sparta in 272 BC. Areus was then absent in Crete , and the safety of Sparta was mainly owing to the valor of Acrotatus who successfully held off the Siege of Sparta .
